The Academy Awards Question

Can anyone tell me why Up is nominated in Best Picture and Best Animated picture? I dont quite understand.

Yeah i get that it was a good picture. But why is it nominated twice in essentially the same category.?

They are different catagories. One is for Best Animated Feature, which is only for animated films. This category was started because there were a lot of great animated films, but they were never good enough to be considered for Best Picture.

See my comment, I mostly think it's because the Academy decided to nominate 10 films instead of 5. They a dit they did this plus plus diversity

Best picture doesn't just apply to live action films, it applies to every kind of film. It's not every an an animated film is up for best picture, but when it is, it's a HUGE honor for the animated film and UP defiantly deserves to be in the category. Other animated films that were up for best picture are WALL-E and Beauty and the Beast.
