Why did Dean's voice get suddenly deeper at around season 4?

It's like on purpose. And also, why does his voice get deeper when he talks to Castiel?

I think it's because the directors made him so he can grow up plus and be a man but i agree with most of u he is like so HOT!!!!

From a medical perspective, Jensen started off on SPN in his early 20s; also, they film in the harsh Canadian weather, including during the winter. In an arid cold, it will tear your voice/throat up after a while. Deductive reasearch can also apply te fact that he speaks the same in interviews, award shows, conventions, and talk shows. Misha has to gargle w/ salt water at night because of how much him deliberately lowering his voice makes his throat raw, and he doesn't have a 12th of the lines (over the years) that Jensen has. For the record, I l’amour Misha, i'm not dissing him.

I think it was done on purpose. When Dean is brought back from Hell is voice is raspy and it is difficult for him to to talk. I think his voice was damaged from what he endured there (or the months his body was in a grave.) But it just made him even sexier (if that is possible). :)

I agree :) It does sound hot when it's deeper and huskier, to be fair, but I don't really know why...maybe because Cas/Misha has a pretty low voice and Jensen feels he has to match it to sound cool?? Maybe it was like everything in the show. It started off as a prank to mock Misha with his voice and then it kinda got stuck?

He was still a teen on Days of Our Lives and had just hit 20 on Smallville. A man doesn't stop fully maturing until the age of 25, and he turned 25 in the middle of the 1st season, plus, everybody's voice drops when they get pissed ou are taking a conversation seriously. I know I do. And he isn't gay; in an interview he was asked if he ever even experimented, and he a dit he took his Christian faith very seriously, and wouldn't be engaged (now married) if otherwise.

That's a good question, and I find it odd that it's stayed low for so long -- especially after hearing some of Misha's complaints about how damaging it is.

Maybe it has to do with Hell. Maybe it has to do with trying to even out the deepness of Misha's voice (Jared lowered his voice a little too). Maybe it's both.

his voice being deeper is put on, and in regards to his voice being especially deeper around Cas, it is because Misha Collins who plays Cas was originally only going to be guest starring so he put on a deep voice like that, which hurts his throat to do so, but then his character became populaire so he had to stick with that voice so in real life Jensen and Misha have a competition to see who can put on the deeper voice :)
