That's funny. In the comments section for the lyrics, a fan mentioned how in the cartoon Futurama, the robot, Bender, was named so as an homage to John Bender. I had no idea, and I've loved both for so long!

I admit I first heard the song on Breakfast Club. Now, every time I've heard it since, that image is the one that pops up.

And I swear, sometimes we all must be on the same brain wave, cause that song has been popping up on my radar this past week.

But the new context for me is the chorus line - "don't you, forget about me" and I keep thinking, I never can, not now. And remembering Severus Snape's 'Always.'

I don't know if or when this fascination will end, but, I don't think I will ever forget the character of Severus Snape.

It's funny how that happens sometimes. I'm guessing we're scattered across the globe, yet from time to time an image or song will resonate within a close time frame among us. Spooky!

This Snape fascination has been going on with me for close to 2 1/2 years now, and while I'm enjoying it, I do agree that I'll never forget his character. Certainly the feedback loop that FP presents helps keep my obsession going. The beautiful art, the fan fic, the community here--it's been such a good time.

I highly suspect...ok, I'll admit it, I knooow I now have a highly romanticised image of Snape, but I don't care. It took me a while to morph him into something I really like. Plus I can be prodded back into viewing him more as how JK probably intended to portray him. Point is yes, he's now lodged in my subconscious as my preferred male fantasy, and will in all likelihood reside there for a long while.

@jester616: I didn't know that about Bender the robot! That's such a cool tidbit and it makes me see him a new light altogether. That robot has just gotten a little bit cuter to me :P

@ComoLoca: I just learned that about Bender myself. When Futurama first aired, the explanation was simply that he is a bending robot. I had no idea that Matt Groening is a Breakfast Club fan. Also in the lyrics comments, someone mentioned that in The Simpson's, Bart's repeated remarks to Principal Skinner to "eat my shorts" is another BC reference.

As far as romanticizing Snape, I think a lot of us here, esp those who comment frequently, are a bit older and bring our experiences to Snape's backstory. I'm not kidding when I say my husband has many Snape-like qualities. Snarky sense of humor, doesn't suffer fools gladly, unpleasant childhood, big nose...What he sees in me is a mystery, but that's a whole other discussion. It's just that we know there's more to a person than what's presented in a purposefully one-sided way.

(I tried to find a piece of art that showed the students making snide remarks about him, Albus leaving him by dying, Harry calling him a coward, Minerva and everyone turning against him....but couldn't find one that symbolized all that. I love the classics. I love the rhythm of this song and the voice of the singer. I love the stops and starts it uses. It brings a smile to my face.

Then, there I was, getting into a better mood, and I thought that it really shows parts of how Severus probably felt about Lily.

Plus, how I felt about Severus Snape. Except for the bows in the hair part which gave me a giggle thinking what if Severus Snape had a little girl that he let brush and put ribbons in his hair because she wanted to fix his hair-Irolled with that image! *full belly laugh*

Severus didn't mean to hurt Lily. And, looking at Lily's and James death, you would think it was sad. (And it is.) But, Lily lived, she married her love, she had a son and family that she loved, she had friends and comrades that were trying to save her. And, at the end, she comes back and is able to save her son, twice, three times if you count the overall protection of her blood and sacrifice. She really lived.

Severus was one of the last left behind. No family. Lily gone. Albus, the only one that knew the truth, gone. Left far behind.

Okay, I know I have some really random moments. But, I heard this song today. And I kept thinking, you know, when you lose someone from a relationship breakup, you do what I've labeled the 'Recently Single Dance'. You search communities on the net, looking for friends from 'before' the relationship. You grab onto any single friends you know and start going out trying to find something new that you're interested in that is totally separate from anything the past relationship. And, I thought about Severus Snape, trying to find somewhere to belong, to relax, to just forget for a little while.
And then my morbid sense of humor broke in and suddenly I was looking at his introduction to Voldemort and Deatheater meetings as his wild moments. And, Voldemort and the gang, sucking him in, (sorta like Hitler was said to be very charismatic). So here he his, trying to escape the anguish of breaking up his friendship with Lily and the awful things that happened at Hogwarts, and falling in with the meetings and groups of Lucius' acquaintances.
I every did a half smirk at the lyric "I woke up with a strange tattoo, Not sure how I got it".

I know, my wonky sense of humor out of wack today. but, it just matched that wild mania some people go through trying to find a new balance in their life after a breakup.

This has been a great set of songs. "Dust in the Wind" has been going through my mind ever since BH posted it, and it just brings back so many memories. Then when I saw "Because the Night", I chuckled because my husband just received a Patti Smith cd from the library.

Well, I just finished ranting on LJ. And, I hope this isn't inappropriate. But, no matter how much I love reading fanfic with those moments of loving and sweetness between Severus and whomever he's paired with.
And no matter how much I love those moments of nobility. And no matter how much I love the thought of being the focus of all that passion.

The first version of Severus Snape that intrigued me, well, it was Bastard!Snape that first intrigued me.

I sometimes miss that first introduciton to my caustic, smirking, prideful, acidic, snide, cutting, acrimonious, mocking, taunting, cutting, and mordant Potions' Master.

I loved the sarcastic snarky bitter bastard and miss him!
