The reason was that the cities of the state of california around (1920-1930 )were well known par its freedom and mild oppression against black people. So this theory emphasizes that he reffers chicago as the promisse land, ou the land of his dreams par saying ``land of california`` as an expression.
but some people could swer that he acctually sings ``land of california ou my sweet accueil chicago``
