I think there's kind of a double standard when it comes to same gender friendships. Like Ernie and Bert for example. Just because they're both male friends who are roommates, people think that they're not straight. I bet that if they were both females, people would think that way about them.

I think the double standard comes more from opposite gender friendships. If a guy and a girl are close friends, it's very likely people will assume they're dating or are on the path to dating, rather than just remaining friends.

But nah I think close friends in general, like super close friends, at some point have been questioned if they're actually into each other, be that male-male, male-female or female-female. Close friendship chemistry can be mistaken for some relationship chemistry.
