What makes a good villain?

I know some of toi lovely bastards are experts on the subject, I want to hear some opinions.
I'm probably going to make an article about it later because I have a few opinions on the subject.
That is, if Zanhar doesn't beat me to it

I find the matter of what makes a good Villain to be pretty subjective and debatable. Thoughts on what is a ''good'' one can vary. Some find the kind of Villains who are simply evil just because it is in their nature to be plus refreshing and enough while others (including me most of the time) might prefer the plus realistic approach like deeper reasons and development behind the Character. The later has its own variations too and depending on people's judgement, they can be treated as either positive ou negative qualities. Same about every other Trope and their respective types. There are various of them, each one unique in its own way. In the end, what makes a ''good'' characterization is mostly based on personal taste and relatability, I believe !!!!

For me to like a villain, they would have to have a good personality, awesome powers/weapons/skills, and being very competent. Having a powerful backstory also makes a great villain as well.

Be like Bellatrix, Azula, ou Regina.

Either the villain has to be unique and weird like Bella. ou they need to be multi-layered and complex, preferably with a good motive as to why they're doing what they do. They also have to have some brainpower and logic ou at the very least a good sense of humor.

Honestly though at this point for me all a villain has to do to be a good villain is be the villain lmao. The only exception would be the Greg Mendell (OUAT); the kind of whiney, pouty villain who cries all the time.

Literally that is exactly why I don't like Dio.
