What are hommages for?

I've been here for almost a year, and I should probably know what they are, but I don't. Do they do something special, ou are they just a way of complimenting someone for something they have done?

They're supposed to be donné to someone when toi like a video, link, article, etc. they soumis ou a commentaire they made. Complimenting someone's icone ou devise is good too.

Obviously though, they're not really used like that anymore. Years il y a there weren't walls on fanpop and so people would talk to each other par propping back and forth. I think it mostly just stuck, and people like the look of having high hommage counts. *shrugs*
