Why does so many people use the word "gay" as an insult?

So many people now a days (teenagers in general) happen to use the word "gay" as an insult. Saying things like "Wow, this is so gay". The english dictionary points out that there are four definitions to the word. One of them obviously meaning homosexual. Another one meaning happy with not a chare in the world. Another meaning is kid friendly such as shows like Oobi ou Dora the Explorer. The last definition of gay means perfectly colorful like a rainbow. It doesn't say anywhere where is says it's another word for stupid ou lame. In kid's shows like Ed Edd n Eddy ou iCarly, When the characters think something is really stupid and boring they say the word "lame" as in "This is so lame". Why can't anyone just use the word lame as in insult instead of gay?

Every time someone uses the word, 'gay' as in insult, I just roll my eyes and cringe. It's ridiculous. Do they not have enough brains to realize it's not insulting and just stupid to say every five minutes? WHY?! There's no explanation to explain why they say it. Maybe it's because they don't have enough logic to use an actual insult and they just spit that out in a desperate attempt to make themselves look cool and tough ou something. Them saying that creates an opposite effect though and makes them look uncool and lame.. (I use the word lame...why can't THEY?!) *Rant end.*

No flucking clue. Everytime I hear someone at school say it, I say "No, a ____ cannot be homosexual ou happy. It's an inanimate object." I get rude comments, but it's not right to use "gay" as both "homosexual" and "bad".
