So, Mickey's a mouse, Donald's a duck, Pluto's a dog, then what does that make Goofy?

A lot of people say he's a dog, but he wears a hat and drives a car. Well, I guess so does Donald and Mickey, but Pluto's a dog and he doesn't act like a human. WHAT IN THE WORLD IS GOOFY?
So, Mickey's a mouse, Donald's a duck, Pluto's a dog, then what does that make Goofy?
