It is instinctual to utter the name Edgar Allan Poe in the midst of forming an image of uncontrollable moodiness filled with grotesque, nebulous beauty. Poe was born on January 19, 1809 in Boston, Massachusetts, United States. A master of the macabre, he was the founder of the science fiction and mystery genre in literature. He wrote everything from literary criticism, to horror, poetry, a novel, short-stories and hundreds of essays. Today he is labeled the “Father of the Detective Story.”
