Does anyone know what the lyrics for "Fireflies" mean?

I think it's a mix between insomnia, and not wanting to grow up ^-^

Adam was camping in northern Minnesota during a meteor douche and realized a theme for a new song!He thought of the meteors being fireflies and how they shot across the sky.He has suffered insomnia since he was little.

in my perspective the artist is experiencing an ecstasy trip there are many signs in the song pointing in the direction of ecstasy i am going to explain throughly of how i take it to help everyone understand the way i do. "you would not believe your eyes if ten million fireflies lit up the world as i fell asleep" ecstasy causes toi to see tracers from lights so when he says toi would not believe your. eyes he is refering to the tracers and "fireflies" i assume are the lights people use to do light
shows while tripping on ecstasy and when he says as i fell asleep would be referring to when he starts his trip. "cause they'd fill the open air and leave tear drops everywhere" tear drops would be the tracers. "u'd think me rude but i just stand and stare" lights are usually irrestable to someone tripping on ecstasy due to the tracers and the ingrediants in the ecstasy would make u focus on them. "cause id get a thousand hugs from ten thousand lightining bugs as they tried to teach me how to dance" someone is giving ou trying to teach him how to give light shows "a foxtrot above my head a chaussette hop beneath my lit a disco ball is just hangin par a thread" all three of them things would be a certian déplacer people do when their doing light shows ou how they déplacer the lights "to ten million fireflies im weird cause i hate goodbyes i got misty eyes as they a dit farewell" he is starting to come down off his trip and dont want to "but i'll know where several are when my dreams get real bizzare cause i saved a few and i keep them in a jar" when toi buy ecstasy in large quanitys they are usually sold par the jar but like i a dit this song could have very many meanings but this is my opinion on what it means sorry if this offends anyone that reads it this is just my opinion on this song par how i take it and from personal experence and also this is not intended to encourage any person who reads it into doing ecstasy me being a 17 an old guy i have experienced on many things and have studied all of them and ecstasy does do damage to your body and brain and it dosent take long ou much to do it

Personally, I think that the song "Fireflies" is talking about someone that prefers dreams over reality. That he/she would rather stay in their own little world than rather facing the real world.

I pretty sure that the song Fireflys was written about owl city's insomnia because he suffers from that. I heard on the radio that his insomnia inspires him to write songs. If toi listen to the song again and really listen toi will connect a lot of it with insomnia.

This is one of those songs where it's your interpretation O believe that the song is about, preferring dreams over reality. Like wanting to be a princess, ou playing dress up dreams allow toi to have a whole other world not connected to the world.

i translate it as:
someone got high, and theyre seeing all these pretty couleurs and just living in a dream world full of laughter and stuff.
and then he's coming down from his high and he's like "got misty eyes as they a dit farewell" and then "but i keep them in a jar" blahh blahh blahh,
meaning, he's down from his high now but he has plus of whatever he was taking and he'll be visiting his dream world again.

I have no idea what the lyrics mean, but I don't think that's the point of the song. It's supposed to be a sort of open-ended song, one for people to draw their own conclusions from. If toi knew exactly what it meant, then that would take all the fun out of the lyrics.

i think it means don't believe everything u see? i think that cause in the song it says "cause everything is never as it seems" and i think it means live in ur world not in the world of others and 2 put that in otherwords justin live in a fantasy!!!!!

It just means: I don't Wanna grow up. I wanna chase fireflies like a little kid. I don't wanna grow up and toi can't make me.

The guy that writes it can't fall asleep so when he talks about sleeping it's because he's awake in the middle of the night écriture the song

i heard that is was either a dream he had ou he thought of it when he was drunk but i also heard he was a christian so i dont think he was drunk

What I think it means is that he will always have his memories and his dreams right beside him, like fireflies he kept in a jar.

hes talking about astral projecting(OBEs) i havent done it but all say its fun and amazing. dont listen to arrogant negative réponses cause the song is complete opposite of that.
