As probably most of toi know, there's a kind of "canon" & very populaire crossover ship - Haley and Dean (from SPN). Where this idea came from?

Does anyone know who was the first person/group that shipped them? Where this idea came from? And why is it so popular? I mean, usually crossover ships don't become canon ones. This is. Why?
