While the titre is metaphorical, at times when I feel lonely, cut off from others, ou even just bored, listening to NPR seems to restore my creativity, interest, and belonging to the world and thus saves my life.
NPR has a part of my life since I can remember, across state and country borders. I have fond memories of when my family would drive across several Midwestern states to visit relatives, at night the calming voices of NPR hosts ou classical musique would lull me to sleep.
When I drove across America, from Pacific to Atlantic and back again, last summer par myself, I could always count on finding a NPR station. If I tried to listen to any other radio station hoping to be entertained par pop-culture, instead I would be driven mad par the incessant commercials.
And as I am currently living in a foreign country, one of three native English-speakers in my town & unable to Converse in the native language, whenever I long for accueil all I have to do is to NPR online to restore my spirits.
This is only a snippet of my tribute to National Public Radio, and it is a personal one at that. All I can say is that NPR, I salute you!
