The greatest lyrics don't make sense out of context. That's what makes it unique and exclusive to the song. I like them a lot better than the interchangeable, universal lyrics.

If you listen (listen, not just hear) the lyrics to that song, you'll realize they're not referring to literal dancers.. Dancers follow planned out choreography. They do what they're told (if it be by other people or themselves). They do what they're supposed to do.

On the other hand, a Human just does. A Human does what a Human feels right. What's right for you is not always what other people believe to be right.

In other words, the lyric is asking "Are you a leader, or are you a follower?"
I like to think of mmyself as a leader without followers, a.k.a, Human.

Why is our opinion so incredibly offensive? Why is it less valid than anyone else's opinion? We aren't forcing anyone to side with us. We aren't putting anyone down, we are simply expressing the opinion that lyrics are highly subjective, contextual and multi-layered. And therefore we don't consider them stupid.

"Obla di Obla da life goes on" is NOT a stupid lyric! And neither is "Are we human or are we dancer?" ! You think it's stupid because you don't understand it. Cassie-1-2-3 said it all. Just because it APPEARS to not make sense, doesn't mean that's true. The lyrics that seemingly make no sense are almost always the lyrics that have the most meaning.

"I like your beard" from that Kesha song makes no sense but it has no meaning. It is just Kesha trying to be weird and funny.
