Symphonic Metal (to choose one genre) usually always tells a story. That's part of why I like it so much. Like Within Temptation's La Reine des Neiges is about an abusive spouse. And In Perfect Harmony is about a child who is one with nature and stuff like that. Their recent(ish) album (the Unforgiving) is all about people who have troubled pasts and were donné a seconde chance par an elderly woman named Mother Maiden.
