Don't get me wrong, Disney's The Little Mermaid is my favorite movie of all time but I prefer HCA's version because it's beautiful and I think it shows true love and sacrifice, I love it!

I dont like Disney version. They always change the original story,and it will be more happy,romantic and childish...I find it wrong. I LOVE the original story, and so Andersen's other tales.

Um, Dont Diss Disney in My Presence. They are family movies not kid ones. That is like people saying Harry Potter is kids books. WRONG on both counts. ADULTS watch Disney movies and ADULTS read Harry Potter. Stereotyping is ugly. I do like both versions of The Little Mermaid it is my favorite fairy tale- but I grew up watching Disney and The Little Mermaid and Ariel have always been my favorite.

Happily ever after is a more recent addition to fairy-tales and if the original didn't exist neither would Ariel. I agree with these other people the original was more touching and it showed that she truly loved the prince which the Disney version really doesn't.

Andersen's version makes me cry everytime I read it, and it has so much more to the theme. Even the plot was done in a more epic way.

I like both of them, but I like Anderson's more cuz it shows how we would do anything for love, I mean, she could kill the Prince to be a mermaid again, but she chose not to cuz then she would be sad forver knowing she killed her loved one, so she chose to die cuz then she would be happy that her loved one is alive and happy.

I enjoy Disney s- " The Little Mermaid" is my favorite Disney movie AND fairytale ever. I like Disney s more. But If it weren't for Hans we would never have Disney s version. But Andersen's is really sad. I'm a sucker for happy endings- I do like it when there is some obstacle they have to over come though. No free ride.
