Stop Using Religion as an Excuse to Hate

Okay, this is seriously starting to get on my nerves.

People will say that being gay is wrong, ou that it's not they who hate gays, but God who hates gays. I think this is pretty outrageous.

I myself am not Christian, but let me tell you, I do not know of a single other religion who has anything against gay people (besides Naziism, but that is a political party, not a religion, and not too many people are a fan of theirs anymore). But I did learn about the Christian religion in my Global History class at school (historically, not religiously. We did all different religions). Guess what? It is historically proven that Jésus did not write the Bible. It was his followers who wrote his messages into the Bible. It could have been that his followers were homophobic, but he himself was not. It would not be the first time that people have used religion to convince people to hate a group of others who are different for no good reason. But there's something I don't understand.

Jesus's message was about love, and that we should spread love and love our fellow man. So... why are people using his message of love to spread around hatred?

I myself have always linked l’amour with goodness and hate with evilness. What's wrong with love? Just because someone loves differently than toi doesn't make that type of l’amour wrong.

Also, in the United States of America, we prohibit gay marriage. We also have a theme of "Freedom" and "Liberty and Justice for All". Okay? Whatever happened to that? The number one reason why people claim to be against legalizing gay marriage is because it is "against their religion". Well, guess what? This is America. Have these politicians never heard of a little something called Separation of Church and State? How about Freedom of Religion? That's a pretty common one. What about people who are of a different religion? They have to abide par these same rules too? Since when was it decided that America was officially a Christian country? Besides, as I a dit before, I don't buy the whole thing about gay marriage being against Christianity, and as I a dit before, has Separation of Church and State been thrown out the window ou something?

Sorry, I felt a need to rant, and what better place to do so than here? Thanks for lire :)

GaGaBoi I agree. I do not have a religion myself, but i do think people that do have a religion let it cloud and sometimes overtake there own judgement and let it effect what they truly think in there own mind. Just because you choose to live your life by what a certain group of people or '' religion '' believes is the right way to do so. Does not mean you should let it overun your oppinions. Fortunaley i live in the uk where gay marrige is legal, but its still a problem with alot of people. Religion causes more problems that it solves and thats the main reason why i will not have anything to do with it.

SelinaKyle If you hear people say the Founding Fathers of the United States were Christian, they are completely wrong. Most of them were Deists, and many of them where appalled at the bigotry and violence perpetrated by Christianity. It's a myth that the U.S. was founded by Christains and is therefore a "Christian Country". Based on Jesus' teachings and behavior described in the Bible, I highly doubt he was homophobic. He treated women with dignity and respect and even challenged the sexual double standard when standing up for the women who was about to be stoned for adultery (or prostitution, it's not really clear which). That is radical for today, let alone in his time. And yet the people who came after him were extremely misogynistic and incoporated it into the offical church. It wouldn't suprise me that the same thing happened with gay and lesbian people in the church. They need to look at themselves and stop using God to justify their own bigotry. How arrogant to think you know what God thinks or wants, and to project a human failing like hatred onto God?

Dragonclaws Religion can be twisted to mean anything someone wants it to mean. Jesus was pretty rude toward some folks. It could be argued he was a tyrant. I think freedom of religion is the thing to focus on. Freedom to practice or not practice religion in one's own way, and to keep the government out of it. FYI, the separation of church and state is a political concept, but it's not in the constitution. It was originally discussed by the founding fathers as a way to keep the church safe from state, and it was brought up again in the 1800s when it was ruled that a Mormon couldn't practice polygamy despite freedom of religion. I think it's a good concept, but it's not in the constitution like the freedom of religion is.

PotterLambert93 This is one of the reasons why I stopped being a Christian. I can't stand people who are obsessed with what the Bible says. Gays and Lesbians have every right to marry whoever they want. Besides, If God did'nt like them, why would they be here in the first place?

67Dodge I stopped following religion because it didn't make sense to me what so ever, why would god "love all men" if he's shown constantly hating certain people? God sounds like a selfish, greedy, asshole who doesn't follow his own rules, hes a TYRANT. And tyrants don't deserve to exist, nor do their insane followers, at least westboro baptist church is going to Norway, because the cops won't protect their bigot asses, they'll be killed.

ImBooOK I agree with 67Dodge. its true. god is spossed to love all people, yet "Man sleeps with woman and woman sleeps with man" means woman cant sleep with woman and man cant sleep with man. Gays are not going to be damned, they are just as good and faithful and beautiful people just as straights are. I do not at all hate straight people. they are straight, and some are not. but if a straight person pulls out the god card, its personal. god and the bible may be important for some famlies or people to follow, but not every person belives in him or the bible. yeah its there. so what? some crazy old man who had visions of sugar plums dancing in his head could have wrote it. if someone hates gays, thats ok. not everyone is going to accept you. thats life. that just means you dont have to like them back or have them pick on you. you do not deserve it. you are human too. So let them have their religon pick on their minds, not yours. but im not saying go ahead pick on the bible readers. some wouldnt dislike you for being gay and they dont deserve disrespect either. Love what you love, not what other people tell you to. like what you like, do what you want to do. belive what you want to belive and ignore the haters, its their problem if they dont respect you for who you are, they are probably just jealous, or maybe they do it because maybe they are sexually fustrated to, i saw that in a movie once, keep your friends close but your enimies closer. And eat a cookie now and then, its good for the heart.

EclecticFan78 One thing I think is really sad is how homophobic people using the Bible, God, and religion tend to turn homosexuals off of a greater being altogether. Growing up as a catholic and coming to terms with my own homosexuality was truely a huge obstacle I had to overcome. While I don't believe in organized religion or the Bible, I do believe in God and to me God is love, not hate. From my point of view, must people who preach hate through religion or the Bible are purely hypocrites. I mean honestly folks, you are going to tell me you live your lives 100% to every word in the Bible? If you do, I would love to see you walk on water. This article pretty much says why I don't follow the Bible, it is written by man and man is flawed, therefore so is the Bible. Though try as these folks might, I will retain God in my heart and soul and my faith will not waiver. Just don't expect to buy into all your expiation BS.

ImBooOK OK, just like a few questions for you ElecticFan78, cause I am seriously like really curious. How do you know the Bible was written by a man and does anyone think they know who wrote it? (And in my comment before i just meant it COULD have been written by a insane person) and the last sentence what does it mean and who is it for, sorry im just really confused today.

Hey,yesterday I found out that I am Bi-Sexual and I told my best friend and she was totally fine with it.I'm thinking about telling my mom sometime soon.
