~What is animé exactly?~

The word animé -- pronounced "ah-knee-may" -- is an abbreviation of the word animation. In Japan, the word's used to refer to all animation. Outside of Japan, it's become the catch-all term for animation from Japan.
For decades, animé was produced par and for Japon -- a local product, with a distinct look-and-feel to not just the artwork but the storytelling, the themes, and the concepts. Over the last forty years, though, it's become an international phenomenon, attracting millions of fans and being translated into many languages. A whole generation of viewers in the...

Or maybe a man who looks like a traverser, croix between a biker and an Elvis impersonator?

Make a schedule. Plan ahead what jour and time toi will have your meetings to keep members from getting confused. Make sure that time works for the majority of the members.

Create posters. Make bright posters that clearly explain what the club is and when meetings are. Be sure to ask your principal where these posters can be placed. Also try to put an announcement for your club in your school's newspaper ou on the...

Lovely Complex ~ The Complete Series
Lovely Complex ~ The Complete Series

Risa and Otani have height problems. Risa is mega-tall and Otani is mega-short and both of them hate it. A particularly perceptive and sarcastic teacher has labeled them “All Hanshin Kyojin,” after a populaire comic act with a distinctive height gap. The two fight constantly and frequently hilariously, which doesn't help. In their own way they're good Friends though, and they have weirdly compatible tastes, so their Friends are always urging them to get together. But that seems unlikely. There's the height difference of course, but also they just don't see each other that way. Until,...

Be Realistic. Don't expect to fight alien-robots for the sake of the world on a Saturday morning.

Be Adventurous and Curious. This is how all the animé and manga starts par the characters seeking for trouble. Don't worry, trouble doesn't always mean toi are going to be in danger. Always question the unknown. Ride the public bus once in a while and meet new friends. Instead of watching TV every morning, go for a walk and explore the forested nothing behind your house. Try to always do something everyday, and meet all the new people that toi can. Meeting new people is the key to having...

Classifying animé into genres can be tricky par itself, but coming up with a set liste of all the possible animé genres is even plus difficult. So today I’m going to make an attempt at examining the odds and ends of animé genres…

At some point, whenever I watch a new series, I think, “What genre would I place this animé in?” ou “If I were to recommend this animé to someone, especially someone unfamiliar with anime, what genres would I say it consists of?” I’ve done this many times, and I was especially focused on animé genres when I was working on my “What is Anime? – the Visual...

Figure out what genre you're into. As with livres and movies, animé has genres. Are toi a fantaisie person, a horror, romantic, comedy, action? First figure out what toi like most to help ease yourself into the artform.

Look online for classic animé of the genre. While toi can find animé online [we'll talk about that later] it is good to research what animé you're interested in since animé can be costly.

The art style. A particular animé might be your genre, the art style might turn toi off. 80's animé looks different from newer animé thanks to unique and changing styles. As well, some...

Master the shapes. animé and manga are drawn in a stylized manner. Heads are round with large, round eyes, usually low on the face. Chins are triangular. Lines for things like eyebrows and mouths are usually simple.

Pay attention to the shading. animé is typically shaded boldly but simply. Look at where highlights and shadows fall and how it gives a feeling of depth to the characters. Eyes are an especially important detail, but hair, faces, and costumes usually have at least some shading, too.

Use colors. animé characters often have bold colors, whether on their costumes ou their...

When toi step into the world of anime, toi step into a world of wacky colored hair and crazy hairstyles! After you've watched a couple of series, though, toi might notice that certain types of characters have certain styles ou couleurs of hair. Is this a coincidence? Are they copying each other? No! Read on as I guide toi through colors, styles, and real life examples!

Nekoni - An animé style artist has been kind enough to give us a few thoughts on the reasons behind the coloring and styling on animé hair styles.

Method One: A Large Eye

Sketch a long curve. Then draw another shorter curve opposite the first. Add slightly curved lines down from each end. This is the basic eye. The haut, retour au début curve is typically thicker than the bottom. Notice the mini-line at the end of the haut, retour au début eyelid. This is a characteristic of the animé style.
 Step 1
