Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
Justin Bieber’s Stylist Assures The World He’s A Legit Nirvana Fan
Even Courtney Love weighed in on Bieber\'s \'controversial\' style choice.
Of all the headline-making news Justin Bieber’s been responsible for during the past three years, his latest is perhaps the most ridiculous: wearing a Nirvana shirt.
Bieber managed to infuriate some rock loyalists when he wore a vintage Nirvana tee from label Fear of God on the red carpet at the American Music Awards on Sunday (Nov. 22). And while the dude is all apologies these days (see what I did there?), he’s not sorry for this one — nor should he be. After all, wearing a Nirvana shirt in 2015 is really no big deal and hardly a radical style statement — even if it is a customized re-cut one that costs a whopping $1,500.
, Bieber’s stylist, Kara Welch, defended the fashion decision by assuring the world Bieber really is a legit Nirvana fan, and explaining why she thinks even Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain would shrug the whole thing off.
“Of course he’s a fan of Nirvana,” Welch said. “I think it’s so funny that all these people are up in arms. I’m sure Kurt Cobain would be like — I mean I can’t speak for him, obviously — but I don’t think he was so snotty or that he would diss anyone who appreciated his music. I think he understood that that is like the antithesis of music appreciation. It’s so funny. But you know, fans are fans!”
Welch further praised Bieber’s fearlessness and explained that they both thought wearing the shirt was an appropriate way to pay homage to Nirvana.
“He’s on the top of the world, so he does not care if someone is upset that he wore a Nirvana t-shirt,” Welch told the mag. “He loved it, and he loves [designer] Jerry [Lorenzo], so it was about support. Jerry sent over the shirt like, ‘Yeah, let’s wear the shirt,’ and we knew it was the 20th anniversary of the Nirvana AMA’s, when they won. He’s a Nirvana fan. I’m a huge Nirvana fan. Like, ‘Let’s wear the Nirvana t-shirt!’”
Even though Bieber obviously can’t get approval from Cobain himself, he basically got the next big thing: a thumbs-up from Cobain’s widow, Courtney Love.
