I think he cared about Harry too.

Snape does care about harry I know it !! even if JK states otherwise I still believe snape cares about harry I mean harry was like a huge part of his life he has GOTTA have at least a little love for the boy !!

It's obvious, isn't it ? He said so in the Prince's Tale in DH, when Dumbledore asked him if he had grown to care for the boy. To which Severus replied : "For him ?!" Then he cast his doe Patronus. Ensued the famous words "After all these years ?" -- "Always."

Severus did all this for Lily's sake and hers only.

Ok...well your probably right about that ladynottingham so he never even felt anything towards harry he just hated his gutts and he'll always will but it isnt obvious nothings obvious when your discussing about snape hes a complicated character but no....I still believe he cared in his own way I dont know I think the story would make a little more sense that he had grown to care for harry....but its pretty obvious that I was wrong somehow....nahh I still think he cares about harry at least a little haha Im torn between the 2 XDD you know what Im just going to say he cared about him but he just didnt want to admit it to himself :).

Definitely this choice! He thought Harry was just like James had been while he was at school and he hated James. Aside from how he treats Harry, this makes it highly seem like he hates him.

I think Snape cared about Harry because Harry was the last real connection he had to Lily, but at the same time he did hate him because he couldn't help but look at him and see James and be reminded that Lily chose James over him.

Snape didn't care about Harry at all. He protected him, because Dumbledore told him that he can make up for his mistakes if he helps him protect Harry. That's a little bit like Leo X selling indulgences to raise money for St. Peter's Basilica. Anyway, Snape hated Harry to the core. That's quite clear all along.

Snape only protected harry because he loved lily, if he didnt struck up a friendship and childhood love for lily when they were kids, then there be no Boy who lived and if snape didnt have feelings for lily there be no way that snape would have done what he did, Snape's actions were motivated by his devotion and love for lily NOT because he cared for harry, but out of memory and respect for his friend Lily and the fact: love is a powerful motivator itself :)

JK Rowling said so herself that Snape wouldn't have protected Harry if it weren't for Lily.

He was completely horrible to Harry at school, if he really cared about him he wouldn't have treated him so badly.

He as much as said it when Dumbledore suggested he'd grown to like Harry in the flashback, by summoning his Patronus which still mimicked hers. He was only protecting Harry because that was a way of fulfilling Lily's last wish (and also possibly a way of getting revenge on Voldemort for her murder).
