Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson’s portrayal of J. K. Rowling’s wizarding trio Harry, Ron and Hermione has impressed film buffs who have voted it the best book to film adaptation of all time.

The vote – run par Samsung Electronics – was set up to coincide with the release of David Fincher’s screen adaptation of Gone Girl starring Rosamund brochet and Ben Affleck.

A third of film buffs voted the Harry Potter series - starring Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith and Warwick Davis - as the best adaptation.

Award winning The Shawshank Redemption starring morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins followed closely in second, with The Lord of the Rings trilogy taking third place.

Other favourites to make the liste were romantic classic Gone With the Wind starring Vivien Leigh and Clarke Gable as Scarlett O’Hara and Rhett Butler, as well as Silence of the Lambs and Bridget Jones’s Diary.

Robert Pattinson may have earned himself an army of adoring female fans in vampire fantasy, Twilight but the film adaptation failed to match up to the novel’s success.

Starring Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner, the film – based on the book par Stephenie Meyer – was voted as one of the worst adaptations.

The Da Vinci Code starring Tom Hanks and Paul Bettany, and Japanese tale Memoirs of a Geisha also failed to impress on the big screen.
