Has Neville Longbottom got a crush on Hermione Granger in Book 4?

Neville asked Hermione to the Yule Ball before Ron (who clearly has a liking for Hermione), so I wondered if he had a crush on her.

I never thought Neville had a crush on her ou liked her romantically at that point. I thought it was a mix of desperation (not wanting to have to go cerf to the Ball) and friendship. Remember, he asked Ginny too, later.
