Did Katherine Heigl really shave her head?

Last season when Izzie was bald for the first time, did Katherine Heigl actually shave her head? And now that it's all cute and pixie-ish, is it that it's growing back from having been shaved, ou was she wearing a bald-cap and now a wig? thanks! :)
