There's nothing to feel sorry for, several versions of Persephone's story have it where she got a loving faithful husband with Hades, compared to others where their husbands cheat on them. Persephone become the Queen of the Underworld and became a strong ruler, sometimes even surpassing Hades in some cases when carrying out punishments, but she doesn't become heartless, one version has it where she creates the Elysian Fields (Greek Heaven).
