Gossip Girl Article: I hate Serena van Der Woodsen :(

I have be an avid fan of Gossip Girl from its pilot episode where I clearly remember when Serena van der Woodsen stepped into the airport in tune with the “She’s Back” slogan. But lately, Gossip Girl and Serena are getting on my nerves. Why do I have such a beef with Serena’s character?

First of all, I have a serious problem with someone who does not learn from précédant mistakes, but habitually makes decisions that are based on lies and cover-ups. Serena is a serial liar. She lies to everyone about everything. Serena has lied to Nate, Blair, Dan, and her countless other boyfriends and friends. She has lied to her mom about…well everything, including college and jobs. One thing that the writers of Gossip Girl should keep in mind is that it is fine to create one of those “tragic hero” types so that WE the audience can relate to the character more. toi know, the one that has ups and down, makes mistakes, but manages to overcome them and learn how to be a better person? So…when is Serena van der Woodsen going to get the revelation? I am tired of waiting for the episode when Serena stops talking about changing her annoying ways and actually does it. There is a point in time when the tragic heroine has screwed up (and screwed around) so many times that redemption at this point is laughable. I wish Serena van der Woodsen would do something to help alleviate the stereotypical role of The Blonde, but she does nothing to disprove it.

My seconde debacle with the lovely Serena is that she is a slut, a whore, a wanton woman…or whatever toi call it in your country. Um, how many boyfriends/lovers/hook-ups should one young female have when she is only between the ages of 16 and 19? Let’s count shall we: Nate Archibald, Dan Humphrey, Pete (the coca addict), Aaron Rose (the artist), Gabriel (the con-man), Carter Baizen (St. Jude graduate), Trip Vanderbilt (the married politician), Colin Forrester (the professor)…that’s eight so far…but we’re still counting I guess. I am willing to overlook many things in this montrer (remember I DO l’amour THIS SHOW), like the glamorization and unreal lives these gorgeous young people live. But I cannot muster enough respect for a character that is so horribly shallow and oblivious.

I am so done with Serena’s character. For those of toi who adore her, suit yourself, but the only reason I can explain any fandom for Serena would be because of her beauty ou wardrobe…but nothing else.

helomusic Love the characterisation! It's mostly what I think of her since season 1 I can't stand her too I still don't see the point of having her on the show!

jacksonrain I agree with you a 100%. I've always felt this way about Serena, another thing I can't stand about her is how everything is about her. With the whole situation with Chuck's mom, she got all up in that because of her personal problems. She's a very frustrating character

rachel_Amy I agree with you! don't get me wrong I love Blake lively but her character is a dumb slut who wants everything she cant have. one second she hates a person then someone else wants them or she thinks she knows what's best for them and she wants them again! I do not like her character. AT ALL!

lindsayleavitt Yeah, I really can't stand Serena. I agree with everything you said. I tried to like her through the first and second seasons but I just can't stand her.

likatika I know that I am extremely late in adding my comments but I completely agree! I just recently began watching gossip girl on netflix and am up to the 5th season. I HATE serena because she never does what she says! I distinctively remembering her telling her mother that she would take a break from boys and learn to be on her own and become an independent women, yet as soon as one man leaves her she just finds another to take his place instead of reflecting on the failed relationship. She also cannot admit her terrible ways, she acts all innocent and pretends that she is selfless and heartfelt when she is really selfish, manipulative, and promiscuous. A lot of the other characters on the show share these traits but at least they admit it! At least they actually try to change. Ugh I hate serena

laxgirlrox I am also late in adding my comment but i was just watching gossip girl on Netflix and i totally agree. I remember watching the show and when her father came back to town she totally manipulated lily by inviting him to almost everything knowing the rivalry between Rufus and William. She is such a Bitch and then when her mother asks her to do something with Rufus she "forgets" but simply remembers to invite her dad and has to leave, so they can be together

lvanduisen98 okay so im nearing the end of season 3 of gossip girl......and for the first couple seasons serena didnt bother me too much but lately she is getting on my last nerves. She is more selfish then chuck bass. she is a total bitch and a liar and manipulative and sooo selfish. Im at the part where will is back and he was "Treating" Lily and she believed rufus cheated. serena has no idea what she is talking abt she thinks she knows everything. And i hate how she practicaly gets every guy she goes after and she is such a slut and she is sooo full of herself. she is the nly reason why i contemplating on ditching the show. Ive been watching this on netflix and the only reason im gonna continue on doing that is because of chuck and blair!! I literaly hate serena she is the most annoying character EVER!!! I really hope she gets hers soon.

L0rdVoldemort I absolutely LOVE Gossip Girl, but I can't stand Serena of the bullshit she caused. I honestly thought she was a cool character at first, because she seemed kind and relatable. Her past was mysterious, especially her shared past with Blair in the first few episodes. But as the show progressed she seemed so much like a Mary Sue. The first thing she did that pissed me off was being a slut. The way I define a slut is someone who sleeps with other people's man (or girl). Serena slept with Nate when he was still dating Blair. Do you know how much that pissed me off? Especially the fact that Nate was being a manwhore and stayed with Blair, yet jumped out of bed with Blair when he received the news of Serena's return (in episode one, season one). But that's another story. Then the fact that she slept with Dan when he was with Blair...and created a friggin sex tape! She deserved it when Sage displayed it at the Cotillion in season six, including the names that Steven called her. I especially hate that she doesn't develop whatsoever! The show finale was amazing, but only because of Jack and his humor. Without him, the show would've gone to shits and left many pissed off fans. Anyway, Serena was on her flight and then reads what Dan wrote about her right before taking off. And then she leaves the flight to go and see Dan! What. The. Fuck. She just forgave him instantly! I seriously hate Serena, and I adore Blair so much better. Blair actually developed, but no one on the show gave a shit about her. That really made me wonder what the hell was going on in the writers' minds. Blair, Chuck, and Dan were probably amongst the only few characters who actually developed and learned from their mistakes. The fact that Serena van der Slut is considered an "it" girl is anything but plausible to me.

nicocourt Yes i agree. I've hated Serena ever since 1x02 mainly. You know how when Blair was all "before I found out you had sex w/ my boyfriend". And then Serena was like "Nate told you?" Or something. No Serena, Nate didn't tell Blair. It was the OTHER boyfriend you had sex with (heavy sarcasm). The thing was, that was when she could have been given character development. She could have apologised to Blair. She could have left in shame. But noooo she chose to tell Blair that losing her virginity was a "quickie". Wow, S, wow. Her character doesn't get developed. She gets everything she wants. And in the books she's so much worse....

bookwormfandom All she does is complain about ohhhh, the struggles of being a rich girl! Complains about being the It Girl, but then gets jealous when Charlie could be the new It Girl. Complains about Gossip Girl, but then *spoiler alert*, becomes gossip girl! Flips when Dan gets a new girlfriend, but dates every guy she meets. And that stuff with her dad! He literally gave Lily fake cancer, but Serena still can't accept that daddy is a fake. She jumps at the chance to manipulate people in order to get her way, yet she gets upset whenever someone lies. Serena just can't accept when things don't go her way. (and seriously, how can she get mad at Blair for kissing Dan years after they broke up when she slept with Nate while he was still dating Blair)

lanuguita I just started watching this series on Netflix, and I am mostly annoyed by Serena. She is self-absorbed, manipulative, and hypocritical, but what makes it the more aggravating is that she masks it all behind a sweet façade. I'm much more a character such as Chuck, who is at least honest about whom he is.

littleJ05 it sucks because ITS ALWAYS ABOUT SERENA! everyone always chooses her when she doesn't deserve it! why couldn't the let Juliet destroy her? she doesn't deserve anything she has! she is such a stupid and horrible person and yet everybody seems to love her! soooooo frustrating! I mean, how hard is it to choose nate or dan? if you really loved either of them you would know.

candy123r i hate Serena so much..every single episode she mange to sick my stomach..she is such a whore..i jus can't blv someone could be so shallow... I wouldn't want her as a friend..the show would be better without her..shes preventing me from enjoying the frickin show..i had to pause the show jus to release my anger..she gets to me everytime. she feels like the world revolves around her...idk why guys wud want her she's been used so many times she need to be thrown out like a dirty napkin...she reaches a point that not even her looks can save her..... she is a let down.. scum..urrrrrrggg ..i also dont know why everyone always rushes in to save the piece of trash...i know it's just a show but omg

candygg I honestly just hate her so much!! She’s a slut! And a liar! Never learns from her mistakes, holds grudges (talking about how she reacted when Dan and Blair we’re dating after Serena slept with Nate ,while Nate and Blair were together.) she’s so full of herself and can’t stand not being in the spotlight. She hates when people lie but she lies herself, and always has to be the center of attention! It just annoys me so much how in season five she ruined Lola‘s audition because she was feeling insecure and had to be in the “it girl” she couldn’t stand watching Lola or anyone else get more attention than her. I really just hate her and her undeveloped character so much!
