~~~ The parhelion (sundog) combined with a halo was seen over Lake Malaren in central Stockholm November 30, 2010.
# A sun dog ou sundog (scientific name parhelion, plural parhelia, from Greek parēlion, (παρήλιον), παρά(beside) + ήλιος(sun), "beside the sun"; also called a mock sun) is an atmospheric phenomenon that creates bright spots of light in the sky, often on a luminous ring ou halo on either side of ...
# A bright spot in the sky due to the refraction of the sun's image par ice crystals; a reflection ou image
This must truly be wondrous to see!
~~~ The solar eclipse is a wonder to behold.
Eclipses are some of nature's most dramatic celestial performances. Solar eclipses occur when the Earth, moon and sun are aligned in the same plane and the moon passes between the Earth and the sun, partially ou completely covering our closest star.
~~~ The arc en ciel is a promise from Almighty God that He will never flood the Earth again.
Rainbows consist of water droplets being struck par sunlight in a certain way. Round, transparent drops of water refract and internally reflect some sunlight towards the observer. Different wavelengths of light refract (change angles) at different angles, so the white light of the sun is parsed into an orderly band of colors.
A high density of waves emerges traveling in the direction of least deviation from the entry angle, and it is these waves that create the rainbow.
As these insubstantial pageants are but light and water, don’t go searching for the touchdown spot. The optical phenomenon depends upon toi being situated a distance from the droplets, with the sun at your back.
