I think it was just a aléatoire name the writers came up with. Ken isn't that common, but Kenneth has been in the haut, retour au début two hundred baby names in the US for over twelve years and it's plus populaire the further back toi go. There would probably been quite a lot of Kens in the 1990's. The surname Adams is also very populaire - it's the 39th most common name in America, I believe.
