Grace let go of Reddie and turned around to see her rival. With an irritated look on her face, she glared at Iwaio menacingly. The girl in blue glared back.
"Don't bother trying to insult me. Remember what happened last time? Grace asked, her fingernails glowing bright red (this is a sign from Renya when they would really like to draw their claws and fangs and kill the nearest living thing). "I got toi caught in a dust storm and blew your house up. How are toi doing living on the streets lately? Pretty low to be living in slums for a celebrity, dontcha think?"
Iwaio became even plus annoyed. "Don't get too full of yourself, Gamma." she snapped. "I've worked on my fighting skills over the past few months. And no, I am not living in the streets. It was another person's house toi blew up."
Grace placed a fingertip (still glowing brilliant red) on her cheek and gave a thinking face. "I don't think it makes much of a difference to me." she replied. "As long as I'm disadvantaging someone, I'm happy."
Iwaio rolled her eyes.
"Anyways, I don't have time for your shitaki mushrooms." Grace continued. She took Reddie's hand, and gave it a squeeze.
He blushed.
"I have a mission to go on with my new team and toi are not invited. Please leave us alone for the rest of your life."
She continued to walk with Reddie towards Kouh, Ula and Earthen who had been waiting for them. "Sorry about her," Grace said. "She's just a giant doof who thinks she can get in my way whenever she wants."
Something sharp whizzed its way towards her.
Simply, she caught it between two fingers par the blade.
A dagger.
Looking over her shoulder judgementally, Grace gave Iwaio the look of total 'seriously?'. "You will never beat me, Orcinus." she snapped. "Now go bother someone who actually cares about your crap."
Slipping the dagger into her manteau (so it would never return to its original owner), Grace strode elegantly down the walkway past the rest of her teammates. She was sick of this crap she was delivered everyday that she didn't send for.
<><><>
"Man, finally we're out of Korham City!" Ula said, stretching as she dumped her backpack on the ground. It had hit sunset and the team decided they should begin to set up camp. They were quite close to a river aswell, so they could wash off the sweat of walking over 20 kilometres that day.
Kouh set up a campfire with a spit while also guarding the stuff everyone had dragged along with them. Ula had ended up packing the heaviest, seeing as girls have certain material needs at fifteen.
"Right, I'll take toi guys to the river." Grace said, removing her manteau and laying it folded neatly on her bag.
"How did toi even know there was a river nearby when we left Korham City?" Earthen asked, pulling a towel along with him.
"It's pretty broad." Grace replied. "After all, I can feel vibrations through the ground, toi know."
Earthen nodded, remembering awkwardly how much cool stuff Grace was capable of.
Finally making it to the river, Grace activated her extraction abilities and created out of nothing but earth, three walls in the river (as for different 'bathrooms' for the boys and the girls) and 'changing rooms'.
"Right, toi guys go in and change." she said. "When you're done, send me a knock through your 'door' and I'll lift it up."
As Reddie, Earthen and Ula walked into their giant mud-boxes and Grace closed them, she decided she'd better write on the 'bathroom' walls which one was female and which one was male.
Taking a claw, she drew the symbols for female and male. That way, Reddie (who was most likely to try and climb the walls to get in and get the wrong one) wouldn't end up doing so.
After she herself was changed, Grace waited for Ula. Ula came out (before the boys, surprisingly, Grace thought human girls took forever changing). She had wrapped a towel around herself.
"Right, our 'bathroom' is this one," Grace said, walking over to the one of the left. She grabbed Ula's wrist and teleported them both inside. At the same time, she had teleported out of her coat, shirt, etc.
"Seriously, toi made all this?" Ula queried, looking around the box thing.
"It's not hard for a Renya." Grace replied, relaxing into the cool water. "Anyways, toi should never swim in a current, no matter how weak it is. Only drink from it."
Ula looked up from rubbing her dirtied and sweaty skin with clean water. "Hm? Why only drink from water with currents?" she asked. "Is still water not good enough?"
"No, it could have things in it." Grace replied. "Still water, seeing as it's calm, bugs can sit on it and leave certain THINGS there. Still water isn't usually clean. Don't trust it."
Ula nodded. "What about right now?"
"This water has only been still for a few minutes. No way are bugs gonna come immediately.
"And when toi break down the walls?"
"It'll turn back to a river."
"So these boxes work like beavers' dams?"
"Yes."
"I see."
Over the wall, they could hear Reddie and Earthen talking, trying to figure out how toi were meant to get in. Grace sighed and let her fingernails glow once more. In the blink of an eye, Reddie and Earthen were suivant door.
"Sorry the water's cold, par the way." Grace said, placing her hands behind her head and leaning back on a wall. "I can't extract nonmaterial things yet, so cold, heat, pain and such can't be taken out."
Ula shrugged. "It's OK. I don't mind." she said. For a moment, she ducked her head under the water and came back up. "Today was pretty hot anyways."
Grace nodded in agreement. Even with her rapid, bodily-temperature changes, she could tell the actual temperature of the day.
Then she disappeared under the water.
Ula began to panic.
She knew Grace didn't need to breath, but what was she planning? All she could see in the water were dark shapes reflected par the highlights from the sun. Where had Grace gone? Had she burrowed through the walls she made to spy on the boys (sounds like the kinda thing she would do)?
Something grabbed Ula's leg.
It pulled her underwater.
Ula screamed.
And then she wished she could sigh underwater, because she saw Grace was the one who had grabbed her leg. Ula swam back up to take a breath.
"Dammit Grace, don't jump-scare me like that!" she scolded. Grace pouted.
"Hey, toi humans can at least open your eyes underwater. Well, most of you." she answered. "Renya can, but it stings like crazy, just fresh water."
Ula rolled her eyes. "You Renya aren't as perfect and powerful as toi seem, huh?" she queried.
Grace nodded. "We can seem pretty dangerous at times, but we have flaws of our own that we can't fix."
Grace let go of Reddie and turned around to see her rival. With an irritated look on her face, she glared at Iwaio menacingly. The girl in blue glared back.
