"Man, I'm getting wrinkles on my fingers..." Ula observed, holding her hands in front of her face. "Should we head back?"
Grace nodded. In a flash of confusion, Ula was back in her 'changing room' and Grace was already back in her clothes. After a few minutes, Ula came out, dressed and clean.
"Now we wait for the boys..." Grace said, rolling her eyes. "Knowing them, they'll probably take forever."
After what actually DID seem like forever, they were heading back to the campsite. Kouh was watching the feu looking pretty bored. When he saw them, his head flicked up immediately.
"Man, toi guys took forever!" he groaned, leaning back and stretching.
"Blame them, they were the ones who took forever to get out and change." Grace retorted, gesturing her head in the direction of Reddie and Earthen.
They gave each other awkward looks.
Kouh shrugged. "Doesn't make much of a difference, toi still took long enough." he replied. He threw another stick on the campfire.
"You haven't even built a spit." Earthen observed in a complaint. Kouh glanced up to him and gave him a '?' sort of look. Earthen rolled his eyes playfully. "A spit," he continued "It's like the base of a miniature teepee with rope down the middle to hold and cook stuff on."
"Ooooohhhhhhhh," Kouh said, nodding. "So it's basically a teepee on feu with a load of uneaten dîner levitated in the middle of it?"
Earthen gave him a strange look. "Yeah, sure...if that's how toi wanna see it..." he answered.
"Boys, I'm going back to the river to grab some poisson ou something for dinner." Grace said, pulling on her manteau and game face.
"So why'd toi even come all the way back with us to the campfire if toi were just gonna stay at the river?" Reddie asked with a confused face.
"Because toi lot suck at navigation." Grace replied blankly. Picking up the pocketknife she always kept tied to her leg, she walked off.
"I'm going with her." Kouh said, getting up. "You three watch the feu and stuff."
Ula nodded as she poked at the feu with a long, thing stick, as to stoke it.
After a few minutes of power-walking, Kouh found Grace at the riverbank, taking off her manteau once again. What is she doing? he wondered as she began to kick off her boots.
Then she promptly waded into the weak current of the river, as if it was what everyone did everyday.
"Hey, Grace." Kouh called out, walking up behind her.
"Yep," she replied, not bothering to turn to him. "Came to poisson with me, did you?"
"Yeah, I like fishing." Kouh said. "My dad used to take me out to sea to catch mackerel every an on my birthday."
"GREAT!" Grace shouted, plunging her suddenly clawed hand into the water at lightning speed. "I l’amour it when I'm hanging alone with someone to tell me weird, personal stories."
Behind her, Kouh gave a rather annoyed face. Shaking it off his mind, he sat near the riverbank and picked up a small arbre branch. Reaching into his jacket, he pulled out a long piece of rope, and tied it on. He rolled up his sleeves and turned to the wet earth at the very edge of the river. Unexpectedly, he slammed his hand into what felt like mud, creating a rather deep hole.
Grace jumped slightly, having felt a strong vibration in the earth. She was up to waste-high water par now.
"Warn me when you're going to do something like that!" she snapped, whipping her head around to face her captain. Kouh smiled awkwardly and rubbed the back of his head. He turned back to the earth and began to dig. After a few minutes, he found a giant earthworm.
"Yes! I've always wanted to find one of these giants!" he exclaimed happily. Grace turned around once again, already with a snakehead in her claws. "Giant earthworms?" she asked judgementally. "Dude, toi could have just looked for normal worms!"
"I like the big ones!"
"I do too, but toi seriously don't need one for fishing."
"The poisson see them quicker!"
"Finefinefinefinefine, use that if toi must."
"Thankyou!"
"You are very welcome, captain. As welcome as a bottle of whisky on a rocket ship."
"...Hm?"
"God, you're an idiot." Grace snapped. She knew all too well that alcohol was not permitted on rockets. Even though she knew very little about the human race, when she was little, she had watched Korham every now and again through Whalesong's Dimension Point. One of the things she had seen was the creation and rule-making of a rocket ship.
It was really cool.
Throwing aside the dead Snakehead to the riverbank, Grace moved around in the water, trying to find another school of edible fish. Kouh had killed his giant earthworm and was now tying bits of it and its guts to his string on his stick.
Grace turned around to see how he was going. "Wow captain, that is one BEAUTIFUL fishing rod." she teased, a naughty smirk on her lips. Kouh gave her a pouting look as he dipped his string into the water. After waiting a while, he got a tug. He pulled his 'fishing rod' out of the water with a large saumon tied to it.
"Good lord of all doorbells, how many different species of poisson are in this river together?" Grace queried.
"This is Korham, we have loads of weird stuff that seems completely illogical." Kouh replied, hacking down on his saumon with one side of his hand.
"Right, well, I've seen another dimension once." Grace said, peering at the water. "That one, called Earth, they have PHYSICALLY POSSIBLE things that actually seem logical."
Kouh nodded as he finally was able to kill the huge salmon. Grace waded out of the water with now a largemouth basse, bass in one hand. "Do toi understand how to fillet and debone a poisson of any sort?"
Kouh shook his head. Having been much fighter his whole life and being unmarried, no way in hell did he know anything about cooking.
"I'm able to cook a simple biscuit, that's about it." he replied, standing up. Grace rolled her eyes as she strode past him.
"I'd better teach toi then, huh?"
Grace nodded. In a flash of confusion, Ula was back in her 'changing room' and Grace was already back in her clothes. After a few minutes, Ula came out, dressed and clean.
