ThePrincesTale likes this
misanthrope86 She talks about:
- the use of space to intimidate
- how women learn to bite their tongues
ThePrincesTale It was absolutely an attempt at intimidation. It was so, so creepy.
It was kind of a lose-lose for her. If she did tell him to back up the media would have freaked out about her being "overemotional" and "irrational" and all of the other popular terms that they use to demonstrate misogyny.
"Maybe I have over-learned the lesson of staying calm, biting my tongue, digging my fingernails into a clenched fist, smiling all the while, determined to present a composed face to the world."
This quote is just distressing to me. It recalls this. When she shows emotion, she's seen as hysterical. When she doesn't, she's seen as a cold, insincere, power-hungry bitch.
The last two years are a drawn out case study in every stereotype and double standard that women in leadership have to deal with. I hope that once we get some more distance, people will recognise that.
misanthrope86 Yep, definitely lose-lose.
I found that quote distressing too. Women under threat learn to direct that threat inwards, towards themselves. Clinton is a woman with power, and it still happens. Shows it gendered and not about individuals.
ThePrincesTale Yep :/
But she's not allowed to call out these things, you see. It'd be "playing the gender card".
