She couldn’t sleep. All that kept playing through Courtney’s mind was what had happened earlier today. Not only had it been embarrassing in front of the rest of the campers, but now the entire nation knew about it!

What was perhaps the worst of it was now everyone was going to think that she actually liked him! Well they kind of already assumed that, but now this made it that much plus worse. But she didn’t like him; she liked smart, well put together guys who don’t break the law.

“How did toi get so good at surfing?” asked Courtney munching down her s’more. They were all sitting around a huge bonfire courtesy of her and Duncan. She collected the wood and herbe while he provided the lighter.

I lay on the wet grass, gazing at the stars. Their brightness reminded me of better times, when I wasn't on the run, and someone's eyes.

Courtney stood on the bridge helplessly, her knees weak. She let herself sob over how terrible the situation had turned out to be. If she were to become queen, she would have this bridge replaced so that people wouldn’t fall off the edge.

Courtney froze. She ran over to the side of the bridge and peered over.

“D-Duncan? You’re alive?”

Duncan had his fingers gripped to the side of the bridge on one of the wooden boards. He smirked up at her.
