I remember visiting this website once...
It was called Downton Abbey Season 5 Episode 7 - Review
Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
Death Looms Over The Abbey – Downton Abbey Season 5 Episode 7
Last weeks episode had everyone finally moving one step forward. However, it seems this week a few are taking a step back. However, it isn’t as bad as it sounds.
Even with some unexpected changes, it seems everyone is still content with their outcomes. So all that build up to last weeks episode isn’t all for not, good things are still happening.
Rose had met a nice young man Atticus just a few weeks ago and they hit it off right away. What is not to love about the bubbly and beautiful Rose? She invites he and his family to have dinner at Downton and by dinners end, he is down on one knee proposing.
She wants to immediately say yes but admits it is impulsive and they hardly know each other. He doesn’t seem to mind and tells her he knows eventually they would end up married so why not just do it now? Rose doesn’t take more convincing and happily accepts.
Violet and Rosamund confide in Cora about Edith’s child. Together the three of them travel to London to find her. When they do, the ladies work hard to convince her to return to Downton with Marigold.
With Edith not wanting to face the wrath of Mary or her father, she refuses to go. Cora promises her no one else needs to know the truth about the baby. She concocts a story about the Drewes no longer being able to care for Marigold and coming to Edith to ask that she adopt her.
When the ladies return to Downton, they set the stage for the mock adoption. While some are touched by Edith’s willingness to take on the little girl, others seem a bit suspect.
Having to pretend Marigold is someone else’s daughter is not what Edith had planned. Then again, at least now they are together and under the roof of the Abbey.
Charles Blake and Mabel are still working to try and get Tony away from an uninterested Mary. Although Tony is no longer wants to be with her, because he sampled her virtue, he feels he cannot just walk away.
Calling for drastic measures, Charles invites Mary into London to a see a show, the same show that Gillingham and Mabel are attending. When it lets out, Blake has Mary plant a well timed kiss on him for all to see. This seems to do the trick and Tony loses his guilt and regains his ex-fiancée.
Mary doesn’t fair as well. She has lost Tony and now will also be losing Charles who informs her he has to go away for work for several months. I am not sure her being the one to end up alone was what Mary had planned. However, some (I) may see it as justly deserved
I think Mary could use some alone time to get her head straight. This may have been a scheme of Mr. Blake’s as well to payback Mary for giving him the cold shoulder for Tony months ago. Mary tried to play the men but it looks like she may have gotten played instead.
Lord Merton and Isobel announce their engagement and have a dinner held in their honor. Merton’s two sons attend and while at the dinner table rudely express their feelings about Isobel and the union. Robert asks them to leave and things instantly become strained between the couple.
Also feeling the strain is Violet who confesses to Mary how she fears losing her best friend. Mary is shocked by not just the admission but the emotion from her usually cold as ice Grandmother. It was a sweet moment, one I hope she and Isobel will share together too.
After falling ill last week, the family dog Isis is not improving. Robert takes her to the vet and is told that she has cancer and has very little time to live. He was given the option to have her put to sleep at the office but he refused.
Instead, he brought her home so he could be with her. At bedtime, Lord Grantham lovingly carries her up to bed. He doesn’t want to be without her so Cora suggests she be put in bed between the two of them.
He says, she has “two people who love her and love each other very much on either side.” His wife replies she only hopes she will be as lucky when her time comes. We will have to wait to see if she makes it through the night. Fight on pup!
It was touching how this event brought Cora and Robert back together not just in the same bed but in their hearts too.
Ana is still trying to search for the train ticket that will prove Bates did not go to see Green on the day he was killed. Ana gave the ticket to Ms. Hughes who gave it Lady Mary. Mary says she burned it when they thought it was evidence of his guilt.
Hopefully everyone admitting to seeing a whole, unused ticket will be enough to back up Bate’s tale. If not, he may still be the prime suspect. That is unless someone steps up to tell the REAL story. This is far from over.
After watching Edith boldly pack her things and go last week, Tom has been wondering about his future at Downton as well. Always feeling a bit like an outsider and the words of Miss Bunting still ringing in his head, he wonders if he really does belong there?
While on an outing with his daughter Sybie, he puts the question to her. What would she think about living somewhere else? When she simply replies “why?” he responds about needing a fresh start and a change. So, will he go through with it?
With next week’s episode being the finale, there is bound to be drama. The question is, who will instigate it? Rose’s parents at her wedding? The downstairs staff? Or the main residents of the Abbey? I vote “D” all of the above!
