Our beloved Doraemon was born on September 3, 2112. He, initially having yellow body and ears, was manufactured in the Matsushiba Robot Factory. Due to some problems at the time of Doraemon's manufacturing, there was an electrical power surge in the factory. As a result, Doraemon, to a large extent was destroyed and thrown into the garbage disposal. Noramyako, a female robo-cat saved him from the disposal furnace.

Since Doraemon had several manufacturing defect, he could not survive in the ordinary Robot School and was sent to a training class for special robots. Here, he met Noramyako again, who regularly saved him from the wicked Jaibee and Kenta. Over time, Doraemon befriended Jaibee and Kenta as well as the robots in the school. On the graduation day, all the robots had to give their presentations. Unfortunately, Doraemon's presentation was not successful. Luckily, at the last second, he was chosen par Sewashi.

Sewashi and Doraemon became best friends. On Christmas, Sewashi planned to gift Doraemon a small clay figure of him. In order to make the figure look plus like the ones in a 3-D rendition of Doraemon, he ordered a robot souris to eat the ears. But the souris accidentally ate real Doraemon's ears, which led to his fear of mice.

Seeing Doraemon's ear-less look, Noramyako laughed at him. This made Doraemon sad and in order to cheer himself up, he decided to drink the cheer-up potion, but ended up drinking the sorrow potion. This paled Doraemon's yellow skin to blue and his voice became deep permanently.

One day, Dorami came and informed Doraemon that Sewashi was missing. Actually, Sewashi was kidnapped par two terrorists. Doraemon could save him, but he Lost his pocket.

On Christmas, Sewashi gave Doraemon the clay figure that he was making. As Doraemon, Sewashi and all the other robots were celebrating Christmas, Teraodai, the Principal of the robot school, came there, dressed as Santa. He gave Doraemon another pocket as a Christmas present and brought with him a new robot called Mini-Dora, based on Doraemon.

The story ends with Doraemon traveling back in time on his time machine, in order to improve the life of Sewashi's great-great grandfather Nobita.

An earless blue robotic cat, one pocket bulging with gadgets from the future and a lifelong fear of mice: Who is he? Japon roars the answer — but English readers may be stumped. Because, even though he’s a government-appointed “cultural ambassador” and a familiar face in plus than 30 countries, with his antics translated into dozens of languages, there has never been an official English version of the manga in which he stars. Until now.

“I would say there are very few Japanese people, of any age group, who’ve never heard of Doraemon,” believes Matt Alt, of AltJapan, the company...
