I dare you to name one smart reaction, action or sentence by her. She's just so incredibly dull

I don't have my smartest list, but I think Snow White is still higher in it than Ariel. Both are not too smart.

I just don't see her as very bright. Average maybe, but not smart.

I don't think any of them are particularly "smart" with the exception of Tiana and Belle really... but Aurora just seems the least smart. She's just a pretty face, really.

To me Ariel makes a lot dumb choices she falls in love with a guy she never met, she goes to the evil Sea Witch for help. Even after Ursula gives all the details about how she has to give up her voice and she can only be human for 3 days and if Eric doesn't kiss she'll belong to Ursula, she still takes the deal. (from an evil witch who she should know is full of trickery)And in taking the deal helps Ursula nearly destroy the ocean, and nearly gets herself family and future husband killed.

I know she's always nice, and always smiling, but she is an idiot for trusting a random stranger and letting her in the house.

I completely agree with cruella. All of Ariel's decisions and actions are a perfect definition of the word stupidity.
I also consider Snow White, Cinderella and Aurora not very smart.

She's not smart at all but isn't stupid either, she's average at best. Besides she does some stupid stuff like how she falls for some random guy she just met, dance with him, and invited him to her house. How did she know he wasn't a rapist, kidnapped, murderer, cannibal, or whatever? She didn't she just invited him because he's good looking and was singing the song she was.

Ariel actually knew some stuff about Eric. She knew he was fun-loving the way he played with Max and how he loved to play music. She knew he's not vain because of his reaction to his statue and that he wanted to marry someone he loves and not just some princess who's beautiful and rich. She also knew he was brave and selfless because he went back on the boat to save his dog.

I don't get why people think Ariel's stupid! So what if she made a deal with Ursula? That doesn't make her stupid it makes her brave to be able to give up so much and to take such a risk for love. I don't think Ariel's highly intelligent but she is smart. I think the only princesses that are highly intelligent are Mulan, Tiana, Jasmine, and Rapunzel.

^ Um that's the same as Ariel (minus dancing/inviting, but to me giving up your voice and family is worse lol) - Eric could've kept her in a dungeon and abused her aswell, just because he "seemed" nice doesn't mean he IS nice.

^ There was not one single woman on that boat. For all she knew he could absolutely DESPISE each and every woman for one reason or another (maybe because of his mother before you say "Oh why would he hate all women?") and therefore would hate her aswell.

To me that decision of hers is far from brave. It's reckless and stupid.

She's reckless yes but this was a time she wasn't reckless and was far from stupid, the only princess braver than her in my opinion is Mulan. Anyway as for Eric yeah I could tell he dispised women when he said he's looking for a girl that he loves "When I find her Grim I'll know! Without a doubt it'll just BAM his me! Like lightning!" yeah really sounds like he dispises women. -_-

^ Ok that's true, I forgot about that. But that doesn't change my opinion that he (or even one of the people at the palace) could've done anything to her - abused her, told her to go away and left her outside with nowhere to go etc..

And what I actually meant was that I just think that decision was more reckless than it was brave, because she is definitely not a coward. But she's still stupid in my opinion - less so than Aurora/Snow White though.

Eric obviously wasn't the kind of person who would do that! Grimsby is obsessed with getting Eric a sweet, beautiful, caring girl to be Eric's bride, so I don't think he would be up to it. Besides even if there was someone who would do that they have no say, Eric is the prince and their boss so they have to do what he says.

aurora. She is nothing but a yes-man (woman).

I agree. Besides the dwarfs had warned her that she shouldn't let anyone into the house. And also, when she first entered the dwarfs house, how did she knew the people in there were good or nice?

Going into someone's house and cleaning it, sleeping in their beds, letting an old woman into your house. Oh well, her adorablness makes up for it <3

Ariel made a lot of reckless decisions, that while in the end worked for her, putting her homeland in danger. That's why I'm picking her.

KataraLover, Ariel and Aurora's relationships with their princes start exactly the same way, yet you insist Ariel is smart, Aurora is stupid. Really? Can't you be objective for just once?

BelleAnastasia I never said Aurora was stupid, I said she's average at best. Ariel knew that he was a nice person by spying on Eric. Of course that makes her a stocker one of the many things the princesses get away with. She saw how nice he was and with Aurora Phillip was kinda being rude. He kept grabbing her and trying to force her to dance with him.

@BelleAnastasia and Mongoose09: You do have a point. Seriously, I agree with your points. :) The only reason I picked Aurora is because while Ariel *does* make stupid, reckless decisions, she must be pretty smart in order to learn how to walk and adapt to other human customs in such a short period, so it balances out a little. With Aurora, while she does suspect the fairies doing something, you don't see her do anything showing intelligence that stands out.

I know, my way of thinking is weird, but I consider Ariel pulling the puppet off the guy's hand, using the fork, and using the pipe as signs of intelligence because she is trying to adapt with limited information as well as gain knowledge on an entirely new way of life, and I think she does this rather successfully too. It's almost like learning another language, in my opinion; you start with a limited vocabulary, and you build up your knowledge and keep adapting with the more you learn.

By the way, I think it was rather smart of Aurora to invite Phillip to her house, when fairies will be at home. And she wasn't looking for opportunity to meet him alone.
And she didn't betrayed fairies and her family for him.

This is one countdown I won't be participating in. I think it's impossible to gauge who is stupid and smart. Seriously, we only see glimpses. I think Ariel knew it was not the best decision but wanted to take the chance anyway, that doesn't make her stupid, it just means she wasn't safe. She knew it was risky but chose to take the chance anyway, haven't you ever done that?
I think Aurora is smart for bringing Phillip to her house, rather than meeting him in the woods.
Snow White isn't stupid, the animals told her it was a safe place to stay and I've always guessed that the animals aren't stupid. Obviously they knew the evil witch was evil, when Snow White didn't.

Actually it does. People who kidnap others act nice to them, they're not like "I am a murderous kidnapper and I am here to destroy you! Now get in the van!"
They fake acting nice to gain the other person's trust and then kidnap them. So yeah. I can tell Kataralover is an easily kidnapped person.

Unless Eric could talk to animals since Max was the only one on the boat who saw Ariel I don't think he was acting nice so he could kidnap her or anyone for that and I don't kidnap easily
