And as for the explanation, I do feel she's brave. Just not as brave as the others. When something scares her, she runs into the woods and cries. This is a justified reaction for a 14 year old girl. However, it is not a particularly brave reaction

You should publish your results when you get them :) It would be interesting to read the other side of the story.

Definitely. She does get terrified in the woods, but we all would be (At least I would). An obsessed, vain witch wants her dead. Snow White doesn't take long to recover from her fear of the woods, and stays sweet, positive, and seemingly happy throughout most of the movie. I'd be impossible to put up with if I had a murderer after me. Not a very good explanation, but I forgot what example I was going to use to back it up.

I agree with MalloMar. She maintains a positive attitude in the face of adversity. I think that's very brave.

She stayed in a place where she was past not wanted, she was afraid about going into the woods but everyone has their "I'm scared" moment. Sure she didn't fight a bear, go to war or live with a Beast, but she did what brave for her, she ran a house hold with people she just met! They could have killed her or hurt her if they weren't nice. That how I think of her as brave

Of course. I think anyone in her shoes would be scared to find out that at 14 years old (well, any age) that your stepmother wants to kill you and that your heart was this close to being cut out. She was alone, she didn't have any company that she knew of or anywhere to go. Her future looked bleak.

Instead of dwelling on the Queen, she remained optmistic and thought of better things which shows great emotional strength and courage. Sure, admittedly she's not the bravest Disney character or even the bravest Princess, but she's still brave.

I'm 14 years old and if I was in Snow White's position I would literally just die of being scared, but instead she deals with it with a smile and a song and I really look up to her for that.

I'm 13. I would be so scared to be in her position. Throughout the rest of the movie, she acts like nothing happened which I admire very much.

Of course she would be scared after she just found out that her stepmother was after her life, but she handled her situation very well and rather than continually worrying about her situation, she remained optimistic and hopeful, which I really admire.

To be honest, I am in the middle of yes and no. While she is optimistic and carries through with happiness after the news she got, she never does anything that is really unusual for her.

It was quite brave of her to trust the huntsman and run into the unknown forest

well, we don't know what her life was like pre-movie. maybe it is unusual for her to still be able to love after being abused. people shouldn't get the idea being brave means doing something action-y because that has absolutely nothing to do with it. It reminds me of what Mufasa said- being brave doesn't mean you go looking for trouble, and that is what a lot of the action heroines do.

also reminds me of what Atticus Finch said: "I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It's when you know you're licked before you begin, but you begin anyway and see it through no matter what." If Merida didn't have a bow and Mulan didn't have a sword, would people still call them brave?

Nicely said, AudreyFreak.
The whole "she gets scared so she runs into the woods" argument is really weak. Running was her only chance at survival. However, she picks up the pieces, goes on, and makes the best of her situation. You can't deny she's got grit.
*And because I'm strangely possessive of her, yes I would find Mulan brave anyway. It is her making an entirely selfless decision from which she could not gain that makes me think her brave. I actually kind of think that applies to this discussion- Snow might not have fought any villains, but she overcame her own demons and showed great emotional strength.*

thank you. and to clarify, I definitely know Mulan is brave (Atticus' quote is specifically HER kind of bravery in fact). I just think her fans tend to call her brave for the wrong reasons.
