Determination

9.Ariel
Coming in last place in the countdown is Ariel. This spunky little princess sets a good example with her determination and willingness to never give up, even when the going gets tough. But she also was berated par the community for her reckless decisions and called selfish for leaving her family.

Positivity

8.Snow White
Snow White is known for her upbeat attitude. Her kindness and positivity toward everyone is a good trait that others should imitate. But she is also disliked par the community for her total weakness and inability to stand up for herself, as well as breaking and entering.

Patience

7.Aurora
Aurora was next. She is loved for her kindness to the fairies, her patience, and for mostly obeying the rules. But she is not to be admired for waiting around for her prince, and also for basically not doing anything at all.

Wit

6.Jasmine
jasmin is known for her line "I am not a prize to be won!" She is a good example for her vivacity and refusing to conform to her customs, and sticking up for herself and having tons of wit. But she is also irresponsible for running away from her royal responsibilities, and for having somewhat of a bitchy attitude.

Hope

5.Cinderella
Cendrillon is known for her incredible kindness, her hardwork, and her patience. She also has a very good attribute of keeping her faith and positive attitude alive even in while she is abused par her stepfamily. But she is also reprimanded for waiting around to be rescued and for never sticking up for herself.

Understanding

4.Belle
Fanpop's favori princess did not make it to number one. Known for her kindness, understanding, and booksmarts, Belle certainly isn't a bad role model. She's great in terms of learning to read someone par the inside, and not judge a book par it's cover. But Belle also can be shamed for continuing to allow herself to be abused par the same guy, and because she's just not as proactive as the following three.

Independence

3.Tiana
Disney's newest princess was really admired par fanpop users. She shows that toi can make your own dreams come true, and that toi can do it all through hardwork. She knows how to be independent and not rely on others. But Tiana is also faulted for not knowing how to take a seconde and have fun.

Justice

2.Pocahontas
Pocahontas has a lot of great qualities. She's adventurous, brave, and smart. She's wise, respects the environment, stands up for what she believes in, doesn't conform, and most of all, risked her life to save John Smith. But what kept her a notch below number one was running off to see John Smith and disobeying her father. It should come as no surprise that number one is...

Bravery

1.Mulan
This chinese warrior has everything to be a good example for. She's brave, smart, witty, and thinks quick on her feet. She sacrificed her own life to save her fathers, kept trying and never gave up even when she was almost kicked out of the army, and most of all, she saved China. Mulan rightfully deserves her spot at number one.

Straggy The only thing I disagree with in this article is that Ariel and Snow White should swap around. Snow White was much more irresponsible than Ariel

irmafan well we all saw what happend when she runs away from the castle if it wouldn't be for the beast the wolves would kill and eat her and you are exagerating it the beast was mean to belle only in the first time they meet eachother and it was only for a day(or night) in the next day he acts kind to her

StarGazer626 For the most part I like this list even though I may not agree with the placement of the princesses. Thought I know that this compilation of many opinions, I disagree with three points in particular. 1 Mulan being placed first when two other princesses were criticized for disobedience (Pocahontas for not obeying her father and Jasmine for running away) when Mulan, if she had not been successful would have brought dishonor on the family (in the original story she was killed for this disobedience of law, even though it is obvious why she disobeyed). 2 Tiana not knowing how to have fun though by the end of the movie she had learned how, that was one of the things she learned in the movie. 3 Cindy waiting to be rescued, Disney himself said: "She believed in dreams, all right, but she also believed in doing something about them. When Prince Charming didn't come along, she went over to the palace and got him" Other than that I found the list to be quite insightful and some of the traits brought up I had never thought about.

abradecraba Good list..However I would like to point out something...You say Cinderella is "reprimanded for waiting around to be rescued and for never sticking up for herself." If you recall, when the invitation to the Ball reached their house, she didn't ask to go, she said she can go. And when she was mocked for it, she stood her ground and eloquently stated that she must go under royal command. Even though she was then made unable to prepare herself to go, everything else was out of her control. True, she never said no to all the commands her step family gave her, but what else could she do? In that time women couldn't do much, she had no other family members to turn to, she would have died on the street if she didn't do the work. Sh'es smart! She bore everything and remained faithful through it all, and that, for me, makes for a great role model. Granted, I do agree Mulan does deserve to be first, but I'm simply saying that the con listed for Cinderella isn't accurate.

MackenzieS This is really well done, and I agree. Mulan deserves her spot at number one because she actually DID something. Some of the other princesses just sat around and waited for their prince to show up. Guess what? That's not always the way things work in the real world. Men can't always save the girls. Sometimes, it has to be the other way around. (Mulan saved her father AND Shang.)

PociandSmith Love this article.The funny thing is that Pocahontas and John Smith are both number 2 and Mulan and Shang are both number 1. I agree with the article.I adore mulan and Pocahontas although i don't really find bad for Pocahontas to dissobeying her father 'cause it was her right to chose who she'd be married with.Also i find some negative things about other princess wrong.For example Jasmine and so on.But anyway ;) Great article. ;)

iluvmydog525 People forget the old princesses like cinderella and snow white can't stand up for themselves that much because women of that time just couldn't, though they should have, but the ones like Ariel and Belle have more backbone because the creators modernised them. Cinderella couldn't of told her family off because then she'd be kicked out and women then couldn't make a living for themselves. Snow White and Sleeping Beauty are like that too in todays time they most definittley do something but they were just damesels in dresstress and that couldn't be changed just face it the time wouldn't of allowed it. And the perfect role model needs to be someone with experince and wisdom and also have made mistakes in their lives so Ariel and Belle sould be in higher spotts.

blossomyumyum I agree with this list without a doubt. Tiana is too underrated- she actually had strong feminism for a modern day princess, and I LOVE the fact Mulan is first. It is true, that SHE saved all of Ancient China. Ever since I first saw the movie around the age of eight, I've aspired to be her in every way. Not only that but I love the song Reflection. That's me every single day of life. ;)

maryksand While I disagree with some of the accusations towards the princesses, overall I like the list, except that for me, Ariel is a better role model than Snow and even Belle and the reason for it is that while those girls mostly (at least in the beginning) let things just go their way and only tried to make changes in completely desperate situations (Belle staying instead of her father, Snow running away and hiding when she found out that the Queen wants her dead), Ariel was always fighting for what she believed in even if it went against the prejudiced standards that her father had about human world. Ariel literally broke the barriers and risked her life to explore something new and to show to her father and everyone that humans are not all bad and that you cannot judge people before you get to know them. She followed her heart and her dream at any coast and I find it to be more powerful than being forced into dramatic situations before taking an act in your hands like it happened to pretty much all the other princesses. Although I agree about Mulan. She is a true inspiration and definitely can be a good role model.

Kiwimangoeater I pretty much agree with this list accept I think Belle and Tiana should be switched and I love Ariel the best, but I have to agree she isn't the greatest romodel

hajirah4 well i agree with #1 but i think #2 should be a tie for tiana and belle. i also agree with 3. cinderella would be moving up to 4, as jasmine up to 5. Ariel would be number six because she is much more stronger than snow white and aurora. (no offense) After all aurora was only in the film for about 15-16 minutes and snow white well....she's pretty and kind but that's about it....like aurora....they both are gorgeous and WEAK, they can't wish for anything but love unlike tiana, they are kind of gullible and i'll end it there. However Ariel does want love but...she's not weak....come on. GREAT LIST!!!!
