Classic Rock Question

What exactly is the difference between classic rock and oldies rock?

I'm looking for a basic definition and timeline. I have examples of groups and artists.

My interpretation is that oldies are from the 50s, edging into the 60s. Elvis, the Platters, Everly Brothers, early Beatles, Buddy Holly, Fats Domino etc.
Classic rock is from the late 60s and 70s, edging into the 80s. Later Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, rose Floyd, CCR, Lynyrd Skynyrd, etc.

Oldies are the birth of rock'n'roll and Classic Rock is the suivant generation.

Of course, it's very subjective and I've heard all pre-80s musique referred to as 'oldies' before [usually par today's youth]. There's really no set definition because the terms 'oldies' and 'classic rock' were coined par radio stations to define what they were playing.

Ah. No wonder I can't figure it out. Cuz I know mostly late "oldies" and early "classic".

I'm not sure on this, but I think the oldies are from the 50's and the classics are the 60's, and 70's.

I always thought oldies were fifies and sixties and classic was late sixties thru the seventies. Not arguing with you, that's just the impression I got.

toi can tell par the tone of the recording of the song. If it sounds a bit muffled, then it was done in the 60s.

I think that Classic Rock refers to like the 60's, 70's and 80's (kinda) rock while Oldies is plus general--like not just rock but older kinds of other musique too.
I don't think they have a set difference though, it's pretty open to interpretation.
