I am a big Bones fan and a big château fan... but I kind of like château just a little better, partly because it's new and exciting and there's still a lot to learn about the characters. There ARE several things in common between Bones and Castle, but for me, that just makes it plus interesting. For example, both Bones and château étoile, star former Whedon stars (Boreanaz and Fillion, respectively). Both Bones and château involve writers (Brennan, Castle) and both Bones and château involve solving crimes. They both have a strong-willed, serious (but not always) female lead, and a witty, somewhat goofy (but not always) male lead. There is sexual tension between the leads on both shows. But if we were to take this to mean that château was a knockoff of Bones, then we'd also have to say that NCIS Enquêtes spéciales is a knockoff of JAG and/or CSI. We'd have to say that Les Experts is a knockoff of Forensic Files. It's kind of like that crazy commentaire I read par a girl who claimed that "Wolfman" was a knockoff of "New Moon" just because they both involved werewolves. Is the premise of château an old premise? Yes - but it's a premise that works. Which is why shows like Bones and Castle, as well as Law and Order and CSI, and even House, which all use that mix of crime, mystery, quirkiness and sexual tension to draw toi in, are as successful as they are.
