For me it especially comes down to the scene in 5x05, after he's kissed her, when she tells him "You're probably not gonna see me for a while." && the "I love you"'s in 5x18.
5x05- Let's look at her face. You can see that Lucas kissing her has affected her. She talks about how they aren't in high school anymore, and that she loves Peyton... for me, her actions always jumped out at me. I really do think it was about loving Peyton for Brooke. I think that kiss made her feel something, something that she had pushed aside for more than a year at that point, and it's because she loved Peyton that she immediately has to push those feelings back down and push Lucas away.
Tell me, if Brooke and Lucas were just friends, no feelings still remained, why exactly did Brooke, in that moment right there, decide that she wasn't going to see Lucas for a while? Why would them sharing a kiss mean anything if she didn't feel something still? Why would it affect their ability to hang out if that kiss didn't do something for her??
And then there are the mutual ILY's in 5x18.
Now i know that haters/non-BL'ers insist that this was just a platonic exchange between friends, but I don't buy it and i never will.
Brooke just finished telling Lucas, "We've been through a lot, you and me, but i wouldn't have made it through today or a couple of other days without you. So thanks." She hands him the purple monkey and they exchange a look before she smiles up at him and says it - "I love you, Lucas Scott. You know that?" And this isn't just a friendly "I love you", it's not. This is Brooke making sure that Lucas knows that despite the hard times they've been through, despite things not working between them, she cares about him, she's thankful for him being in her life - she loves him. And he smiles his own smile and replies, "I love you too, Brooke Davis." ♥
So if anyone tries to tell me that there was nothing more than friendship between BL in S5... I direct them to this pick and call bullshit!
But I don't see how there is any way of interpreting this statement as anything other than that Brooke cared about Lucas as more than just friends.
