Bring Me the Horizon Discuss ‘That’s the Spirit’ Album Direction + Future
Bring Me the Horizon have shown over time that they’re a band that doesn’t like to repeat themselves. The group has evolved their sound over time, with
being their most radio-friendly album to date. We recently had a chance to chat with the guys from Bring Me the Horizon and discussed the evolution of the sound and where they see things going.
According to the group, they were aware of the stylistic change they were making and have been pleasantly surprised by the response so far. Keyboardist Jordan Fish tells us, “We knew it was going to be a bit divisive because there’s always going to be the people that just like the old stuff and it’s so far removed from the band’s first album. Obviously you know you’re going to win some, you’re going to lose some, but I’m a bit surprised at how well received it’s been.”
While there are some pop influences, vocalist Oli Sykes says it’s still on the harder rocking side. “Whether it’s for the rock scene or the metal scene, that’s up for debate, but I think that it is for people that like music, that actually like music and respect good songwriting. It’s not just generic pop songs,” says the singer.
As for where the future will take them, that’s a bit up in the air as Sykes says each album is a different experience. Will they return to metal? Will the music go even more experimental? Only time will tell. Watch as the guys discuss the direction of their album and what the future may hold in the video interview above.
album is out now. You can pick it up via Amazon or iTunes and look for the band on tour at these stops.
