Morning arrived quickly. geai, jay didn't hear Steve enter the apartment at eleven - thirty last night because he was sleeping soundly. When geai, jay woke up at eight - fifteen that morning, he found a note from Steve.
It read: Hi, Jay. Sorry if I woke toi up par walking in the front door. Just a note saying good morning and hoped I didn't wake you. Steve
geai, jay knew he didn't hear Steve come into the apartment at all last night and had slept right through. He planned on calling Barry this morning between the suggested time that Barry had donné him the other night. Before calling Barry that morning, he thought he'd call his former manager, Paul. He thought he'd get dressed and eat breakfast first. While eating breakfast that morning, a certain memory came to mind. It was his first meeting with Barry on how they first met twenty - nine years ago.
Flashback:
Eighteen - an - old geai, jay McCarey had recently moved to Las Vegas. geai, jay came here with his parents, Don and Shirley McCarey, while his sister, Karen stayed behind at accueil in Washington because she was still in school. Both Don and Shirley were helping him buy his first house. He came here to Vegas because he wanted to perform at the Hilton Hotel, just like the King himself did at one time.
"Remember what I told you, Son. If it doesn't work out, it's insurance for you," Don McCarey told him.
"Trust me, Dad, it'll work," geai, jay said.
He wasn't one hundred percent sure, but he wanted to give performing a shot. He never knew whom he would meet, but he would just have to wait and see who his Friends here in Vegas would be.
He knew performing would be a better job than insurance. He didn't want a boring job like insurance anyway. After buying a house in Henderson, the three went off to the gas station to get plus gas for Jay's convertible. After paying for gas, they drove for the Strip. Once they got to the Strip, geai, jay drove straight for the Hilton Hotel.
After parking his car at the Hilton, the McCareys looked around, asking for the supervisor of the hotel. It took a while for the supervisor to get to the McCareys. While waiting, geai, jay watched all sorts of games going on but he knew he was still a bit too young for the casino.
It took a while when the McCareys discovered geai, jay was finally hired.
"Does that mean I can sing anything I want?" geai, jay asked.
"That's right, young man. You'll have to come again later this afternoon for an audition," the man said.
"Okay. What time do toi want me?" he asked.
"Anytime between four and five."
"Okay."
After arrangements were made, geai, jay and his parents decided to walk around the Strip until then.
"What songs do toi have in mind for your audition, Blue Jay?" Shirley asked him.
"I was thinking of Elvis," geai, jay answered.
"Good thinking, Son. If he's not wanted for your audition, why don't toi do Sinatra?" Don McCarey suggested.
"Frank ou Nancy?" geai, jay asked.
"Frank, of course," Mr. McCarey said.
Audition had come and gone. geai, jay had performed "Heartbreak Hotel" for the only song and it did well. He was asked to start performing at the Hilton suivant week after the schedule would be set up.
"Great work, Son," Don McCarey praised him.
"Thanks, Dad."
Even his mother praised him.
"Thanks, Mom. If toi guys don't mind, can we divisé, split up for a couple hours? I want to explore around for a while," he said.
"Sure, Son. Whatever toi do, don't go in the slot machines ou the tables area. toi have to be twenty - one to do that," Mr. McCarey warned him.
"I know."
After the three divisé, split up, geai, jay decided to look for the showroom. He wanted to see the showroom he would be performing from now on. Once he got there, he saw a famous étoile, star head his way.
"Hi. Are toi here to see the show?" the étoile, star asked Jay.
"No. I was just listening to all the screaming in there. Are toi from the show?" geai, jay asked.
"No. I was going back to my dressing room. Who are you?" the étoile, star asked.
"Jay McCarey. And toi are?" he asked.
"Barry Manilow," the singer said.
"It was nice meeting you, Barry. Is that if I call toi that?" geai, jay asked.
"Yes, that's fine. Why are toi here? I don't get it," Barry a dit as the two left the showroom.
"To tell the truth, I am going to étoile, star performing here and I want to learn my way to the showroom," geai, jay said.
"What are toi going to perform?" Barry asked, already interested in the subject.
"Elvis Presley. I don't know my schedule yet," geai, jay said.
"You'll learn," Barry said.
End Flashback
"Is it already almost thirty years since we met? Where did the time go?" geai, jay asked as he dialed Paul.
