The knighting ceremony has died down. Merlin has retired to keeping Gaius company and enjoying his supper. All that’s left for Arthur to do is envelop himself in the sûr, sans danger arms of his wife after his long journey.
He walks into his chambers and candles are lit, leading him into the lit area. Excited from what thoughts are now dancing through his head, he walks swiftly to find his bride of three years. To his surprise she is still dressed in her red robe from earlier. She is Lost in a daze, her eyes looming over the courtyard. Arthur hesitates to speak, as she didn’t even notice he had entered the room.
Being able to read her mind and her uneasy demeanor, he simply walks carefully towards her and hugs her from behind. For a moment she only stands there letting his scent and strength draw her unconscious. After a time, she smoothly turns in his arms to where she is now facing him and hugs him greatly in return. Her arms snake around the back of his neck, as his arms do the same to her waist. Her head turns and she places her mouth sensitively near his ear and whispers, “How is it, toi always know exactly what I need?” He kisses her neck and replies, “Because you’re everything I need.” He kisses her deeply, and ads, “and more.”
Soft sniffles and cries begin to erupt from within Guinevere, and Arthur leads her to the lit where they sit as he holds her.
“What is it? I’m accueil sûr, sans danger and sound; there’s no need for tears.” Guinevere hears his words and they are like a warm wrapped bandage around a fresh cut. Soothing. She lifts her head from his chest and speaks, “Oh, Arthur I’ve missed you. I’ve needed toi here with me. toi would think after three years I stopped worrying if toi were to return accueil ou not. “
“But I am home. With you. I’m accueil and I’m ready to make up for Lost time.” Arthur says suggestively.
“So why don’t toi call for Sefa to undress you… ou should I take care of that for her?”
At the name of Sefa, Gwen rises and walks away from her husband afraid to mention all that has transpired during the days of his absence.
“Arthur, Sefa’s not here. Anymore.”
“Where is she?” Guinevere pauses for what seems like an hour. She sighs.
“I found out that she was gathering information for her father, Ruadan, who works for Morgana. She knew toi were approaching Ismere from the west, so… I sentenced her to death.”
“Arthur, I never thought I would be able to take another person’s life. For good and just reasons, yes, but after knowing what it feels like to face death, I would never wish that on anyone.”
“Guinevere, toi did what toi felt was right. toi obeyed the law and as the Queen it’s your duty to carry that law out.”
Gwen suddenly turns to face her husband, though nervous to look him in the eye. She speaks, “I didn’t, Arthur.”
“You didn’t…”
“No. I planned to use her execution as bait to catch her father, and I did. Ruadan is dead. But Sefa managed to escape château grounds. “
Arthur is silent, listening intently, waiting for her to continue. Finally Gwen retreats towards her husband. Her friend.
“All I want to do is make toi happy, Arthur. I want toi to be proud of the decisions I make; that I’m your queen; that I rule Camelot beside you.” Arthur immediately takes her hands and pulls her down beside him.”
“Of course I’m proud of you. What ever gave toi the idea that I wasn’t? toi are the most precious thing that’s ever happened to me. I l’amour toi so much, Guinevere. “ He touches her face gently and cups her cheek in his palm. He continues softly. “This kingdom isn’t worth ruling if you’re not there along side me. You’ve made me happy for so many years; I couldn’t imagine my life without you. Camelot is lucky to have you. I’m lucky to have you.”
Guinevere overlaps his hand with her own as he slowly leans in to Kiss her. Guinevere welcomes him, openly. Moments pass and they pull away, though they are still joined at the head and nose. Guinevere whispers with full content, “I l’amour you.”
At once, Arthur leans them back to lay and rest on the bed. Finally he is home. Not in Camelot. Not in his castle. But in the warm and loving company of his companion; his queen; his wife; his love.
