On run from Agravaine's troops, Merlin sneaks away from others - calls the Great Dragon - Aggy's troops toasted par his fiery breath - Heroes take refuge in cave tunnels...
Ag & remaining goons follow - so Merlin breaks away from others to create a diversion - he's cornered - but uses his magic to fight off villains.
Ag is stunned - "You have magic!" - realises that Merlin is Emyrs - he tries to pull a blade - incapacitated par magic - killed - fuck!
Arthur insists on going back for Merlin - surprising Tristan. The reunited group decide to head back towards Camelot, in hope of finding their friends.
Arthur's faith in himself is failing - Gwen tries to comfort him - but he's turned hard, still angry about her betrayal.

Camelot - Gwaine is snatched away for another fight-for-food - donné only a small wooden sword. Gwaine earns another mouldy loaf, but Gaius is dying.
Arthur still glum - blames himself for récent events - "I was a fool - I misjudged everyone."
Merlin summons the dragon for a seconde time - Merlin must restore Arthur's faith - he has an idea...
In the morning - Merlin leads Arthur into the woods - tells him the tale of how the Five Kingdoms were born. Claims that Camelot's first King once thrust a sword into a stone - only one worthy to be King can remove it...
Arthur is led to the stone - where Percvial, Leon, knights and other citizens of Camelot are waiting - tracked down par the Dragon...
Arthur struggles to remove the sword - M: "You're destined to be Albion's greatest king." - his faith restored - and with a little help from Merlin's magic - Arthur pulls Excalibur from the stone!
Helios reports Agravaine's death / dragon attack to Morgana - M: "This is the work of Emrys."

Arthur prepares to go to war - Gwen watches on - Is: "Never give up hope - l’amour is stronger than anything."
Later that night, Merlin sneaks back to Camelot - uses magic to transform himself into Dragoon.
Incapacitating a guard and stealing his cloak, Merlin reverts to younger self - but Morgana's already caught a glimpse of 'Emrys' - terrified.
Morgana tries to sleep - but Merlin has planted a voodoo doll type thing under her bed. Back in the woods, Tristan and Isolde ask Arthur if they may fight at his side - they are impressed par his honour and leadership...
Armed with Excalibur, Arthur leads his army to Camelot. Camelot's forces and the Southron warriors clash - Morgana: " My dear brother... we must welcome him home."
Percival and Leon rescue Gaine, Elyan and weakened Gaius - while Arthur leads assault on trône room, where Morgana waits. But her magic is useless - thanks to Merlin's doll, her powers have vanished.
Morgana flees - Merlin pursues - while Arthr and co. fight Helios and his men.

Arthur is wounded par Helios, Morgana par a knight of Camelot. Isolde saves Arthur before Helios can strike killing blow, but Helios strikes her as he falls. Tristan holdes Isolde as she dies...
Gwen confronts Morgana - sword fight. Morgana knocks Gwen's sword to the ground, but magic propels Morgana back - Merlin! Gwen is saved - but Morgana has vanished...
Moved par Isolde's sacrifice, Arthur decides to forgive Gwen. He proposes to her again and she happily accepts.
Some time later - Guinevere is crowned Queen of Camelot and the people of Camelot rejoice...
Wounded Morgana retreats to the woods - she collapses - all but dead - but Aithusa arrives - breathes his magical breath - restores her to health. Then flies away...

leona21 Bonne-Bell, due you mean doubts about her feelings for Arthur afterall that has happened? Maybe it is my wishful thinking but I feel she has no doubts about loving him whatsoever. Her doubt would be if she is capable of cheating again really. Then if she has that doubt then fair enough. My main worry is if Arthur is able to prove he can trust her again. Forgivness is one thing but to be fair it is not so easy to forget. As long as his crappy behaviour is not dragged out for the vast majority of the show I think it may be alright, well I am hoping so. I also need his proposal to be good and not straight into it, like last time. Maybe that might be where they have their major dialogue because this romance is gonna be hard to play out with all the sh*t that will be going on around them. I agree with you about the misgivings with regards to the enchantment. IDK, maybe they want Gwen to accept that she does have flaws and show how she can deal with them. I think I am clutching at straws here and trying to be positive about what might be a dire situation for our pairing. Gwen has indeed suffered the most, just like Giaus had predicted, unfortunately.

EPaws I need to see the episode. I will not go off like everyone did about the shake wanting Bradley aka Arthur practically jailed for hurting Angel aka Guinevere. Which is bloody nonesence. She is more likely to get away with hurting him and he would allow it. Anyway, I am not going to go apeshit, until I see the episode. If it doesn't work to a bigger arc, Johnny and Julian will be getting copious caustic letters and a possible visit from a petite, irate woman, cause I am due to go home soon. I WIll FIND THEM! Prepare bail, just in case. LOL! Her Majesty's judicial system sometimes leaves much to be desired.

leona21 EPaws, if it does go apeshit, then no amount of money is gonna let them get out on bail. I think they'd much rather stay in jail than face our wrath.

HumbleQueen I feel so bad that everyone is struggling so, and I can understand. But just a few more thoughts. I'm working through this myself and trying not to panic. Maybe a little worried to be honest, but I still think it's okay. About Gwen. I think Leona is right. I think we are feeling her plight and that is the intent. Not that this is something many fans care about, but I have noticed at places I frequent that people are becoming more and more sympathetic towards the Guinevere character, even people who thought little of her before. This is a wonderful opportunity for her to shine, for Angel to shine as never before. I think next year as queen she'll be beloved in a way that's even more than it would have if they'd been married pre ep. 9. Sure she;s going to have doubts, but only Arthur can help her with that. I think he will. I cannot see her wanting to marry him otherwise. Now maybe I'll eat my words after seeing the real thing. Arthur. We have to face it. When this coming episode starts, we'll realize he's not where he needs to be about the "betrayal." He hasn't forgiven her, it's still eating at him. I think we may have been thrown off a little by last week's reunion, but the more I watch it, I think it's beautiful all the more because you can see that they still haven't resolved things. Look at their faces as they go into the hug, look at the yearning, longing, but still, the pain. It didn't mean they still didn't need to work through the problems. So, it's with that in mind that I don't think this is a situation where we need to worry about Arthur always throwing it up into her face. As I'm seeing this, when he reaches that point when he can embrace the relationship again, he has come to that important turning point in his life. He won't have reached that point until then and it's not something we should take lightly, worrying about the future. It is at this point that he asks her, once again, TO MARRY HIM. Guys, Arthur repeats the proposal and makes her his queen. He can't be at that point until his heart is right. So bear with him, guys. Let him work through it, because when a man makes a woman his queen, that is pretty doggone awesome. We need to remember another thing, something pointed out by my daughter, who is no a big fan of any particular "ship" or anything, just likes the show. She just recently watched ep. 9 much later and said "Mom, Gwen totally incriminated herself!" Then she started talking about what Gwen actually said (in truth) in the throne room with Arthur that she "couldn't help herself; was drawn to him" and words to that effect. And also how she put herself in front of Lancelot, or at least that's how Arthur took it. This is a huge hurdle for Artie. I think we need to cut him some slack, as we do her. They've both been horribly victimized. Working through this is a huge deal, and if they have the kind of love and strength of character to overcome this, they can overcome whatever. Now how cool is that? And for a royal couple with a kingdom to rule? Bonnie, honey, I reall do think it's going to happen in 4x13. I think when he reaches that point, it will be with all his heart. He's been heading in that direction, but hadn't gotten there yet, especially with all the other heart wrenching things going on to drag him down.

Bonne-Bell @Leona, sorry, I didn't mean doubts about her feelings for Arthur but doubts about marrying him after what she has done and if he can truely forgive and trust her. I kind of feel as if without the enchantment reveal, Gwen would only be able to forgive herself if she believed that Arthur had forgiven her. But if Arthur starts off at the beginning of the episode showing that he hasn't forgiven her and treats her like crap, then surely this would make her feel even more guilty. So how does she go from that to suddenly accepting Arthur's proposal? I don't think him just telling her that he has forgiven her, when he just spent the first part of the episode treating her like crap, is going to be enough for her to stop having these doubts. So likely she's going into this marriage still self-hating, still thinking that she doesn't deserve Arthur and that just makes me sad. Also I don't think that Gwen has ever had trouble accepting that she has flaws. I've always thought of her as being quite insecure actually which is part of the reason why I'm uber protective of her. Because I can just see how the events of 4x09 would futher play on her insecurities and feelings of self-worth. I think it's more of the audience that tend to see Gwen as flawless and I don't think the enchantment will help them to accept that Gwen has flaws because it's clearly not her fault and she's being victimized yet again.

Bonne-Bell @HQ: I see what you mean. I just really hope that he does reach that point in 4x13 and doesn't just ask her to marry him just because he sees Tristan's pain after losing Isolde. Because I don't think those feelings will last. As soon as the threat of losing Gwen is removed, he may very well be back at square one still bitter about the "betrayal" and still treating her like crap because of it.

Lucerne28 I am not a fan of the enchantment not being revealed for the following reasons: How can Arthur fully trust Gwen again with no reveal? How can he trust Gwen not to betray him again? In his eyes he and Gwen were happy, no issues, no drama. They were happily looking forward to their wedding. Out of the blue, with no warning, no sign of any discord, Gwen is locking lips with Lancelot. In a rage, out for blood, and to defend Gwen’s honor Arthur attacks Lancelot. Who jumps in between them, and PROTECTS Lancelot from Arthur’s rightful wrath? Gwen. His lady. His heart. Gwen did nothing when Arthur was in danger of losing the fight, she reacts only when there is a threat to Lancelot. How does a person forget and forgive something like that? I know I couldn’t, and I guess maybe that is the problem that I am having with no reveal taking place. Then you have Gwen. With no reveal how does she trust herself again? She was happy with Arthur. Her dream of marrying the love of her life about to come to fruition, and she throws it all away to pursue an ex-boyfriend. Really? For what reason? Don’t know. Was it because of doubts about her love for Arthur? No. Was she afraid of the responsibility that comes with the crown? Don’t know. She self destructed, betrayed herself and the love of her life for no known reason except she got, what? Horny? With no reveal she is left to wonder what character flaw that she has that makes her capable of such betrayal? Finally, you have the monarchy itself. Heirs are important to the continuation of the line. The queen must be above reproach. There must be no doubt as to the legitimacy of any children they might have. People have long memories, and the fact that the queen to be was found in a tryst with one of the Knights the day before her wedding, is not something they will forget. There will always be that whisper, the wonder, if she is messing around the kings back again. To have Gwen’s reputation wrongfully tarnished, IMO, weakens her in the peoples eyes. As someone on Twitter coined it “Gwen’s SlutShame continues”.

Bonne-Bell Yes, there is that problem of how the people will now view Gwen. I mean these people wanted her to be executed when they found out about the betrayal. So how are they going to accept her as their queen while still thinking that she betrayed Arthur? I really wish Merlin payed more attention to Gwen's character because what they have set up now could really be an interesting story arc for her in S5 but guessing by the spoiler that the people of Camelot rejoice (huh? weren't they just clammering for her death in 4x09) after A/G marry without the enchantment reveal, I don't think we're going to get it.

lailastar I have a new theory, the person who dies and return is young Merlin dies/cease to exist and old Merlin takes over, as in the legend, Merlin was older and was able to guide and advise Arthur. I know its far fetch but hey its a thought.

sportyshuie Wow ... so many comments and i dont even dare to speculate any myself. But Nanna ... like your optimism. You deserve a standing ovation. I'm giving you one now! I dont like two things here. Arthur needed magic to pull out Excalibur. That is RUBBISH!! If they gonna screw with this epic moment, i'm going to bang my head against the wall and collapse. Legend has it that only Arthur can pull it out; no legend said Merlin will help with his magic! If the writers decide to tamper on certain legendary issues, i'm ok with it as long as it's for own viewing sake but they better not tamper on Excalibur! What's next? Arthur winning the round table from Robin Hood and the merry men!!! Second, the aithusa part. I thought it was mentioned the dragon will not play any part in this episode. SO? I'm more expecting Modred's intro ... As for Arwen, i want to view the episode before making any judgements. I'm quite on the fence here. I like the enchantment not revealed as it will pave to more indepth character development for Arwen in S5. If everthing is resolved in this season, then S5 will be back as how it was for Gwen in S1. Boring. So ... i guess, the writers do know what they are doing here and i believe we will have more quality Gwen and Arthur moment in S5. But as for Gwen's immediate approval on the proposal ... feel a bit suspicious there. And how come Isolde dies ... i thought it was going to be Helios and Aggy? Does that mean Helios lives? Anyway ... be calm ladies as we have just a day or two for certain countries and we can all have our answers. Some of the decisions/scenes will not go down well with all of us, or at least not as we came to expect but believe me it's all for our own good. We are being prepared for a better season next year and left wanting more by cliffhanger endings here. So, since it's christmas ... let's hope our wishes get granted tomorrow but if does not, lets applaud the writers for giving us all great epic Arwen moments this season. Happy X'mas all ...

lailastar Arthur loves Gwen, his wanting and longing of her will always overcome his anger with her. He cannot help himself, she is under his skin, he lives and breathes her, he runs to search for her when she is missing, he is unable to eat or drink when she is away from him. He might be angry in the beginning of the episode but living without her is not an option. A love like that makes a man very possessive , she belongs to him,as he sees it that is why he will have a hard time forgetting the sight of Gwen in Lancelots arm
